Carenado Mooney Update

Recommended Posts

After the excitement they all calmed down and said "Y'know, we've done very nicely out of the 'eye-candy' crowd. Let's not spoil it"

Just to be clear Carenado seems stepping up a bit and I'm glad to see. Yet a still of airplane doesn't have  custom made systems and heavily rely on default. SimCoders would be most welcome in this case. But I doubt it, unless someone else comes alone!

Also tt would be great if Carenado fix overhead panel lighting which is still not lit .

I'm not holding my breath waiting for a 2nd update for the Mooney.  I'm afraid what we got is going to the total update until the GTN and/or XP 530 is available as additional addons. The keybinding "flashlight" seems to be a work around.

Here is what it looks like and is easy enough to turn on and adjust.  The Mooney makes a great night cross country plane.  The instrument lighting is good enough until we can get a user mod lighting specialist to tweak the controls.

What flash light key combo are you using? I tried ALT I and ALT L but it wouldn't work for me unless batteries are off

I am using ALT+i.  I has a conflict with Master Ignition so I changed that to CTRL+i.  The ALT+L is being used by LittleNavMap for the Logbook.  Mine worked on the first try as I was already in flight and changed the time of day to dark night.

I think Carenado might have tweaked the panel instrument lighting rheostat a little.  I had told them they needed a couple of more clicks, the first try was either too much or too little at the low light end of the scale.

They read that post and they all 'fist pumped' and shouted in unison "YEAH!" 😄

Ron-

It's their ONE SHOT at being taken seriously, so many of us have dismissed them as very pretty rubbish in the past.  Truthfully, they owe a huge debt to @Bert Pieke for all his considerable modding in prior sims which has been their redemption if any.  Let's see if they want to run with this, or fade into obscurity again.  The money should be a good incentive, this time.

The aircraft now tracks GPS/VOR perfectly, HDG mode no longer causes wing rocking in some weather, and the trim is far less sensitive. It’s a fantastic airplane.

Anyone struggling on the takeoff roll at about 60kts rotation speed?  The aircraft seems to yaw to the right quite heavily, I normally have the rudder trim towards the right indicated by the TO position but maybe this is too much in the sim???

At sixty you should get the stall horn on lift off. That's what I get, but only as a test. Always rotate around 80 and currently using FSUIPC to set up rudder and don't see the yaw issue at 60 IAS.

@sidfadc

Correct, goes very strongly to the right.

But the worst case is the view. Straight forward is slightly downwards, when swiveling to the left or right the look moves down.
View to the back again up, like a rollercoaster. An all-round sight seeing view is almost impossible.

Rudder trim is bugged in numerous aircraft. TBM suppose to have rudder trim in take off position to offset left turning tendencies, but if you set rudder trim in correct position prior take off aircraft veer to the right instead. Same applies to Mooney.

To the extend I think it's FM problem left turning tendencies should be significant  stronger in more powerful aircraft, but they are all behave the same as in 172. I think XP11 is shining in this respect.

(IRL) Back to my private years my first attempt ever to take off in Piper Lance after Cherokee 180 almost ended up in disaster as couldn't keep directional control on the runway because I didn't realize the difference of amount rudder required.
