RTX 3090 owners - worth it?

Recommended Posts

To all the early adopters that bought the 3090 for MSFS - any regrets in not going for the 3080 - was it worth it?

It would be better at this point to wait for the AMD announcement on Oct 8th and also with all the growing rumors of the 3080ti with 20GB, 3070 with 16GB etc.

Yeah, I would definitely hold off until AMD put their cards on the table.

I was super keen on the 3090 but for almost 2x the price it doesn't look worth it for 10-15% or so gains. Hopefully we'll see more gains with DX12 but I've shifted my focus to waiting for the 3080ti

I think a better question would be, has anybody actually managed to get hold of a 3080 lol! 😁

The numbers alone spell that it's not worth it.

Yes, but if the 3080ti version with 20GB VRAM emerges then I will purchase that. I always wait for the ti versions of Nvidia cards with more VRAM and higher speeds anyway. I already have a 2080ti, so I am not in a hurry.

I built a power PC for this sim and am VERY impressed by the 3080...I wonder how much performance boost actually comes with the 3090?

I can second this. I just got my MSI 3080 few days ago and it is a huge improvement even coming from a 2080ti. Just imagine the performance when the sim makes better use of the CPU....

The 3090 is a Titan class workstation card. It cranks out 32 TFLOPS of processing power for machine learning and heavy scientific data processing (albeit only 32 bit precision for 64 bit you need a tesla) and high end creative workstations.

Now, just like the Titan RTX before it, it uses standard GeForce drivers which means it CAN be used for very high end gaming and Nvidia talk about it being a 8k gaming card, but that is not it's primary purpose.

The popularity of the card for gaming caught Nvidia by surprise, they really only made enough for the scientific market, hence the way it has pretty much sold out.

The 3090 is primarily a card for professionals, the majority of cards have been sold for professionals for a purpose other than sim. The 3080 is the best choice.
