Now, 2 months after its release, the "simulator" has not shown any real improvements or bug fixes.

I can see your point, but I think there is a LOT at stake overall and they'll likely fix it. I'm not sure the addon market is big enough for Microsoft short-term, but I think if they look at it in the long-run it is. I would not say they have not been fixing bugs, that is a bit overstating maybe, but they've been trading bugs is what they've been doing. The fix one bug and cause another.

As a developer and user involved in the SDK, it's been a mixed bag. The SDK initially fixed a few bugs, but this latest release introduced new issues into the UI, some real time wasting frustrating issues. Material preview editor has bugs now, they swapped one bug for another in some cases. It works ok, but there is still some very frustrating things you have to work around.

Not speaking to your issue specifically, but on a different note
The idea that the freeware market will just totally take over and replace the payware that people are hoping, well I am all for freeware, but the payware market must exist. The problem is the man hours involved building any decent sized airport. For instance, I've got 500+ hours just working on one airport that I'm releasing as freeware soon enough. I certainly will keep trying to do some freeware on the side after I finish this, but I am definitely not tackling any regional to larger airports as freeware, any future freeware I do is going to be < 20 buildings. I made a mistake picking an airport with more than 60 buildings, it takes tons of labor to render all that stuff, and the bugs in the editor are not helping.

First, thanks for your efforts.....as a long time member of the freeware community (aircraft painter), I know the effort is varying percentages of enjoyment, frustration, commitment, tenacious attitude, and stubbornness. 🙂

The payware market will always have a place, as like you said....some of this stuff is hard!  And when you factor in the time considerations, you either have to call it a hobby you're passionate about (the dev side, not the flying in flightsim side) to justify the exorbitant amount of time you spend doing it, or make it something you can offset the hours with actual funding to go back to your expenses (time is an expense that a lot of folks don't classify as such, but spend enough time doing something for free, and you'll change your mind) 😉

I think their motto would be "Planet Earth is blue and there's nothing I can do."

Rob, yes, agreed but. . .

MSFS is the future of hard core simming. There's no doubt about it. P3D can go back to being a defence solution - which is why LM bought it originally. UK RAF F-35 pilots are initially trained using P3D Sims.

I've deployed P3D for commercial customers - they're delighted with it. They now all want MSFS - for the scenery. I've told them, so far, it's not possible because flight modelling has yet to resolve.

But, resolve it will. Give it eighteen months and we'll not be looking over our shoulders.

Unless, of course P3D does something extraordinary - like the equivalent of what MSFS has done with Bing, using Google.

Then I'll take another look.

The way MSFS is implementing scenery is surely the future.

If Asobo is able to make everything work as promised in all vids we’ll have to see.

After 2 months I have become quiet sceptical and you won’t here me saying., “they will resolve everything”.. Hopefully the whole project won’t be too much ..

And indeed if they had announced MSFS as Early Acces everyone would have known upfront that is was WIP...

Hopefully I will be able to fly my favorite ac the 787 in a few months ✈️

Thanks for the encouragement guys (you and SteveDra), yes @ Steve I definitely do love designing scenery or wouldn't spend that much time.

Well, I picked Logan Utah (KLGU) for the freeware release, and I'll have others eventually hopefully, but a few sample shots of some of my Freeware work are below. I'm trying to make sure it's payware quality, I'm even rendering the telephone lines (image a few posts down).

The thinking at the time was that:
#1) The Photoscenery in this area is above average, it's better than the SLC area itself as you go north it gets cleaner. It's not quite as good as say Denver or Seattle area, but it's pretty close to that quality. Also lots of nice flights from Wyoming to Logan and in that area, but as you go east of say Jackson, Photscenery quality starts degrading again (or North into Montana unfortunately, some of Montana looks good).

#2) The airport is entirely missing from the game, that was part of my motivation (it's a good flight from SLC or to Idaho Falls or wherever). Also the airport has some interesting characteristics to it, there is a train next to it and a tractor dealer, and it has a decently nice mountain backdrop. There is a Rock mining company right next to it too, and that was kind of interesting to render (working on that part now).

#3) Since it's a training airport, runway is extra long, so you can land anything there really. My only issue is I didn't realize how BIG this airport was, it looks small from the sky because of the perspective, but I'm too far in now. Just noting have to focus on smaller airports in future.

Not yet, it depends on where I decide is the stopping point. I've rendered both Control Towers and 15 buildings so far, the airport has 65 buildings and 10 or so ancillary buildings. I've decided I'll custom render all front facing or unique ones, but a few in the back I'm going to save that for a V2 update or something else, but overall it will be entirely custom rendered.

Sorry, I keep misposting screenshots as it is hard to keep track of what is what, here is a shot of the electric poles I meant to post, I have mixed feelings if I will render the tractors custom or not, I may.

The roads, custom fencing, electrical lines, vegetation --- all hand placed. It's a LOT of work, so much work.

The road is even designed to look exactly like the real road (though still working on it).

I would have thought that their announcement that MSFS had a 10 year road map would have clued people in that it would be a continual WIP.

That looks incredibly good 👍

Geez your a mad man. Tried my hand on my local grass airstrip, after having done all the markings, i gave up. just too time consuming, SDk is quirky, had 10FPS in it, so yea, not the most user friendly thing 😄

That is true but they could have released it with less features and therefore less issues first. And then add features along the way and take their time to fit it all together in a stable way..

Yah, I really should have gone for a smaller airport (kicking myself), but I did it partly for psychological reasons. After I build this monstrosity, then the others will seem like cake. I didn't realize it was this big though, I didn't bother counting the buildings (should have).

There are a bunch of missing airports in and around the Logan area, I'm trying to get to the others soon, but they are much smaller, not all will be freeware, some will.
