Water Masks - Comparison

Yeah, I agree. But what is the truth? That they have a special version they refuse to release? Either way it makes no sense.

Their version may look fantastic in those areas just for the sake of the trailers and introduce huge bugs in other areas OR it may require a huge computing power and RAM/VRAM quantities that only they have, OR maybe they are just not in-game footages, just edited advertising videos.

Software houses are not new to this, take a look here:

My suspicion is they manually added water masks for the tiny areas in the videos and ASSUMED incorrectly they would be able to do the same thing automatically for the rest of the world once the AI was sorted out - but obviously dropped the ball on that one and cannot.do it automatically after all,  hence all this manually adding water masks piece meal when they get a chance.

However i have no evidence for that - it is just, as I said, my "suspicions" about what is going on .

Sad thing is that instead of adding the missing water masks they removed the ones we had before, as in Turks and Caicos. I flew there last week and the water mask was great, now it's gone.

Go figure...

This is what baffles me. It’s bad enough the marketing videos have eye candy, the sim lacks, but the worse thing is, they are actually removing water masks from the sim... not adding them.

The onls problem is that their trailers miss the disclaimer about showing stuff you dont (yet) get in the actual product. This is false advertising, simple as that...

Why remove the ones that were already there then?

Also, if you look at the pre-launch trailer, everything looks perfect: watermask, unreal LOD, beautiful fluffy clouds, no objects popping in, no mesh / terrain warping as you get closer, no black/white gaps between textures closing as you approach... 4 months and *7 updates* ago.

In a few days we should know more. Let‘s just hope that they don‘t use the same measure for days that they use for weeks😅. Now would be a good time for MS/Asobo to demonstrate reliability and restore some faith. As they said, it‘s only a data update, no big deal, so it should be easy to do.

I have the feeling this won't do much. Even with the last Q&A where the relevant inquiry was one of the top-voted threads, Jayne asked the question and we got a response which appears to have been dishonest now. But if the water masks are yet to be implemented two months later, I will definitely be posting those comparisons in the forums so that more people can realise the severity of the situation.

You are right but we have to keep pushing, with more and more evidence.

The idea is to be impossible for them to come again with the same answer.

I am tired of being gaslit by their lies.  Which is what this is....it's not any mystery.  It's a lie plain and simple.

I think they underestimated the effort a little. However, a team of 100 to 200 devs should be able to show progress.

Happy with MSFS 🙂

Hey your screenshot looks particularly bad, I've never seen those blocky cloud shadows on water.
Moorea looks pretty good here and would be great if it had the watermask updated to show the shallow waters.
It would be extraordinary if they used Google imagery 😀 🙃

The weird thing is that fact that they are using OSM data for a lot of stuff and on it you can clearly see reefs and visible shallow water area,

Just have a look for compact blue dot area here https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=12/-17.6565/-149.5373

On QGIS, I am using a software that will vectorized data from it

I think the main problem is not the lack of data but the lack of suitable imagery. Just go to Bing Maps and you‘ll see that many coastal water areas are a mess or inexistent.

It's easily reproducible, just take off from any leg of the Alaska bush trip and fly on water.

OK that is bad.

My game in ultra is nothing like that.

Yep I get the blocky cloud shadows too. I never did any of the built in bush trips so far, maybe that's why.
When using live weather or one of the presets or the plugin Unreal Weather I never noticed it.
On a different note, imagery in this part of Alaska is bad, that fluorescent green cannot be real.
