Let's just say that the reason for "avoiding" the marketplace is due to their lack of expeditious release of updates for payware add-ons.

Will you buy from the Marketplace if they improve the time these are available on there to update? 

Can anyone confirm if there's any truth to the sceneries being locked for editing (AFCAD related) if purchased from the Marketplace or is it bs?

When you buy a scenery or airplane it doesn't go into the community folder where the user has access to the files. It installs into the main folder and most of the folders are not accessible.

I prefer to support the developer and not the re-seller.

My understanding is, and as I said, I'm welcoming someone to provide evidence that I'm wrong, that airports purchased through the Marketplace have all of their files locked. I'm assuming this means that we won't be able to edit the AFCAD. In another thread (can't find now), Umberto from FSDT mentioned that the files were locked. I'm assuming that meant the ADE/AFCAD as well, but he wasn't specific, and I didn't probe

I'm sure you know this, but for other's benefit, we won't be able to adjust the airline codes for the gates, among other things, if the AFCAD's are locked. So, for example, a new airlines starts service to KLAS. If we could edit that file, we could assign the AI for that airline to specific gates. Without the ability to edit the ADE/AFCAD, the aircraft will go wherever the sim sticks it. This assumes that MSFS handles things similarly to FSX/P3D, but everything thing I have read seems to indicate that it does (not exactly the same, but similar). A new version of Airport Design Editor is in testing, and I'm sure we'll hear more soon. Maybe we can drop a new ADE/AFCADD in the community folder and it will overwrite the locked file? IDK. All I know is I'm not buying from the marketplace until I have an answer. I did purchase FB PDX. It is in the content manager, but it is not listed as custom content. I have no idea where the files are on my system. They are not in the community folder.

Also, it seems like people generally the the UI sucks. I don't love it either. Makes me think they didn't do enough user testing, because it feels like an afterthought. Addon's are not getting updated (or uploaded) in a timely manner either.

 

I hope they sell this outside MSFS store as well. So I can get updates and discounts if any faster.  Someone posted (a user not FT folks) that it would initially be onsale through the MSFS store and later, through their external channel. That's not good if that is true. 🙂

Emilios just confirmed that it will be sold first at the FT Tampa store and the price will be right around the price of EKCH for MSFS.

I'm up flying at 5am'ish Central in the US...Will be my destination airport from KLAX if its out by then. 😉 (Hey a guy can hope)

Go for it - KLAS will probably be there even if Flytampa is still in bed. 😏

Anything bought through the marketplace is encrypted to prevent piracy, downside is that third party programs cannot read the airport files (or aircraft.cfg)

It will be out later this afternoon as per Emilios.

Looking forward to this release. Looks like the most complete addon package we will have seen so far. I really like that they have included the city of Las Vegas as well as the airport. 

After this, I hope they do FT Kaitak and Hong Kong and then OMDB

Actually TNCM is in need.  'FlyTampa' with no Tampa International is another issue.  Hong Kong is a great but what I like about the area is freeware developers are expanding the area.  There's so many cool buildings and things to see in the surrounding cities.
