December 13, 20205 yr Since I've gotten Active Sky into P3Dv5.1, every time I report to Luton it's foggy, or raining, or both. I'm beginning to think AS is buggy, or abandoning my plans to retire to sunny England.

December 13, 20205 yr I don't know much about the weather in all of England but we were in London a couple of years ago and on one September day the sun came out for about 20 minutes shortly after 2 p.m. So, yes, England does, occasionally, have good weather. December 13, 20205 yr That's so unreal and unfair. We have day's/weeks so stupidly hot that I have not been out of our old stone house. Utter garbage!
December 13, 20205 yr 50 shades of grey pretty much sums up the weather in the UK right now but it has been winter since 5.1 released! Specs: 11900K (5ghz), 64GB ram 3600mhz, RTX 3080 ti

This time of year, December, you can expect it to be cloudy and rainy. It's winter. We do get all the seasons, so I wouldn't refer to it as "sunny England" more like "all seasons England". But yes, cloudy and rainy is a characteristic of the winter. This is why the NHS recommend Vitamin D in the winter. But cloudy applies to many places in Northern Europe. In regard to the British Isles in general, there are milder locations. Channel Islands is milder due to the gulf stream meandering past us. Scotland is further north so colder of course. Winter in the Highlands is for men with private spherical parts the size of planets who are scary enough to wear a kilt and no underwear. This summer in the UK was the hottest July on record. Summer is frequently breaking records. Winters are milder than they used to be too. Edited December 13, 20205 yr by martin-w

Well, I notice you are from "Bakewell," so perhaps your location is anomalous :-) It's gray and cold here in southern Illinois, just not much precip. We do get tornadoes, though, attracted by the large number of trailer parks.
December 13, 20205 yr The seasons in the UK, like other areas, have changed dramatically since I was a boy. I remember long very hot summer days, damp, foggy autumns with very cold winters and delightful spring weather. For about the last twenty years I have seen a very slow, but dramatic change. Now our spring seems to be an early summer and summer days are often rainy, look at Glastonbury and Wimbledon. July and August are often rainy, with, in my experience, the best time of years is April through to June. Generally speaking, the seasons no longer are well defined. Of course there are the exception where people will say they had a wonderful summer holiday in July, sure, that may well be the case, but from my experience, I am just talking in general. But I guess we do have more crappy weather than we do nice weather, the trick is to make the best of the good weather days when they arrive! Usually small, but sometimes as in 2005 we get one that causes damage.
December 13, 20205 yr 'Sunny' England does sometimes have very good weather - especially down South. But come on guys, were 52 degrees North here offshore NW Europe - give us a break. S. Illinois is 37-38 degrees north same as Southern Italy or Sicily! Anyway, Luton Airport's up high in the Chiltern Hills so probably not as good as elsewhere esp. in December- maybe try Heathrow or Gatwick? Ray (i.e. of English sunshine 🙂
December 13, 20205 yr Author This is a tornado. (Murphysboro is still our county seat,) Cut right through Southern Illinois and two other states. We even learned what a derecho was a few years back--pretty much a hurricane that hit us hard. My poor MINI Cooper got a tree dropped on it. I had a vague awareness that "tornadoes can happen anywhere," but never heard of them in the UK. Huh.

When we lived in Sicily I had to drive the kids up to the top of Mt. Etna to let them see snow in the winter, though. I wish we had Sicilian weather here! I think it beats both our homes in a lot of ways. But that was 91-93. Everything has changed, I'm sure.

July we saw record breaking peak temp of 38.7C. 2019 was hotter than any year between 1989 and 1990. Summer is getting hotter. What the data is showing is that our seasons are actually blurring. Spring is now starting 6 days earlier. Doesn't sound like much but it has a big impact on the food chain. In 2019 the Woodland Trust claimed we didn't really get a winter at all, it was more like an extended Autumn. In fact winter 2019 saw an astonishing record of 21.9C at Kew Gardens.

December 14, 20205 yr Ironically it was actually a really good summer in the UK this year weather-wise, although it was of course spoiled by being under lockdown, but it was for the most part scorching temperatures and blue skies for weeks on end. It's cack at the moment though weather wise, in fact it was snowing here last week, wait until the end of February however and you'll start seeing some nice days in Blighty.
