January 28, 20215 yr If you look at the navigraph survey you see that almost 45% of the simmers come frome Europe. If you keep in mind that xbox is comming with probably a lot of new simmers, then I would expect after France and Benelux that it's Germany's turn. I wonder what a giant influx of new simmers would do to forums like these. I9-14900K, Gigabyte B760 Aorus Elite AX, RTX 4080, 32 ram.1 tb nvme M.2 SSD, MSFS 2020 on 2 tb nvme m.2 SSD
January 28, 20215 yr I‘ll happily take any update, but if I could choose I‘d pick the following (not necessarily in that order, apart from the first one). - Alps (all of it) - Western Mediterranean (esp French/Italian Riviera and the islands) - Scandinavia (esp Norway) - Aegean - New Zealand - British Columbia and Alaska - Caribbean Personal bias aside, maybe it‘s time for a region in South America, Africa or Asia. i9-11900K, RTX 4090, 32 GB ram, Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, TCA Airbus sidestick and quadrant, Reverb G2

Sadly Chock, I agree with you. Unfortunately that schedules Australia, New Guinea and Indonesia for about 2090 which I may not live to see. Financially, for Asobo/MSFS it makes sense to know precisely where their markets are and to follow that route. I think, even if MSFS solicited this information it would have to follow that pattern. Good luck to those who benefit from the numbers though. Cheers Tony Tony Chilcott. My System. Motherboard. ASRock Taichi X570 CPU Ryzen 9 3900x (not yet overclocked). I think there is more to it than that even... I would suggest that they are looking at where the new breed of Add-on artists are working and updating those areas that are showing most love (where there is new data) to give those artists stability in producing new add-ons. After all.. nothing is more discouraging than spending your own time working on a free product than to find that it is then made irrelevant by an update. As it is, there is going to be issues now in the UK.. Liverpool already has a freeware and an ORBX version, both of which could be made redundant by this update. If people are going to spend their own time updating things, it makes sense to have the best base available to them before they do so. Obviously, getting the updated mesh etc is important as well, but when you add that to where people are providing free stuff.. I think you start to get driven towards a schedule and a "best" order. I live in Finland, but have spent a grand total of 20 minutes flying here. For a brief moment in the beginning I went to my old habits and flew the FBW A320 in European Routes (5 flights in total). Then one evening I took the VL-3 and looked around Unalaska in the Aleutians. Then out of curiosity I flew to the next Aleutian Island. One thing led to another and now I have continuously followed the Western coast of Americas and currently heading south in Antofagasta, Chile - a total of 80 hours. I think Asobo should also pull out the data where people fly the most and see what they can learn from that. The data might tell that people fly where the scenery is interesting and aiports are modeled, but I don't believe it before I see the data. - Tuomas
January 28, 20215 yr Speaking of expressing our Wishlist for world updates, I don't understand what joy you guys get flying over the same places over and over again. Can we stop with the cliché regions like Europe and North America please? Let's get out of our bubble and explore the world for once, you know, like the purpose the sim was intended for. These countries are over-represented in the flight sim space. Boring. It's time to shake things up a bit. I think the argument of 'follow the money' where they only update regions where simmers are mostly present is a fallacy. I think the only reason the argument exists is because historically the simmers and modders have had the prettiest scenery in these areas and have only flown around these regions. If given the chance to view the beauty of other parts of the world as well, I'm sure they'll prefer other continents just as much as EU and NA. But they've made it very clear that they follow the data as opposed to people. If a region has plenty of HQ data available, it's fairly easy for them to implement in the sim. But if we were to have a choice, I'd say South East Asia and Middle East. Lots of hidden marvels and vastly under-represented. Edited January 28, 20215 yr by FAZZ3

When Air Hauler 2 became available for MSFS, I decided to go somewhere I'd never flown to and set up a new cargo company there. So I went to Antananarivo, capital of Madagascar, with the intention of flying cargo runs to mainland Africa and exploring there, then later probably to other destinations across the ocean to the East. It's been quite educational. Prior to this, I could probably only vaguely have told someone where many places in Africa actually were on a map with any degree of accuracy, even though the names are familiar, but now I'm pretty clued up on the place. But payware add-on wise, you can count the number of African airports there are available on one hand, and still have a few fingers to spare. While I see the logic of this, I don't think that's actually as sensible as it seems at first blush. The single biggest advantage MSFS has over its competitor sims is that places that are not North America, Europe, or Japan look really good. (Compare that with P3D where default Africa, Asia, and Oceania look horrific.) So why not play to that strength and lean into those other areas? "Hardcore simmers" seem genuinely quite resistant as a group to flying anywhere that isn't close to home, but my impression is that the fresh blood MSFS has brought in mostly don't have that hangup. Why not focus on gorgeous "exotic" destinations instead? Or places like Antarctica that most people have never been, and probably never will be? James

This would certainly make sense, but then again they said that the availability of imagery and mesh data was an important factor as well. Incoming new imagery in particular seems to be a rather random matter, at least that’s how it sounded. I’m sure they have a rough idea about possible updates, but I’m not so sure about how definite this is. i9-11900K, RTX 4090, 32 GB ram, Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, TCA Airbus sidestick and quadrant, Reverb G2
