Mesh : Hey Microsoft how long the charade will go on ?

Featured Replies

The setting "not saving" bug has been around since the initial release. 😀

I think it's good that this thread has been started because it asks the question, did ASOBO really have a plan?

If I was the lead developer, I would have focused on creating a sim that centered around the visuals (Photosceneries, beautiful dynamic water and watermasks, and a dynamic weather engine with spectacular clouds.) Right now, this is still a WIP.

They could have easily released a sim with a few excellent airplanes. They could have formed a partnership with A2A & PMDG to create the best sim possible. Did they do that, NO!

Continuing on my dream scenario, I would then focus on improving the cities & POIs, airports, ATC, AI traffic, and finally, simobjects.

The add-on community could have easily improved the above, if they had a mature SDK to work with, but once again this is still a WIP.

Although the sim has brought much joy to me, it has came with frustrations & annoyances. ASOBO, after every new update, keeps breaking something in our sim. The team's lack of a solid plan on how to deal with patches and updates is their greatest failure.

Having said all that, they are learning as they go, and the sim is actually getting better. So, even though my dream plan was not employed, hopefully the end result is an amazing sim for the community to enjoy.

😀

Simming since '95

Simming since 1981, I beat ya, I do remember when a mesh addon was a novelty, yes  I am that old 😁 ! The point is not about comparing MFS to P3D.  I like MFS but when I take off from an airport in the boondocks and have to by-pass an enormous wart, it tends to sour my mood.

It is difficult to understand  that they cannot set the mesh right when we know from 20 years of experience that it is not exactly rocket science, cf. the little guys Toposim or Pilots products. Do they care ?

Yeah, I agree with the OP, but right now MSFS is a WIP. There are other sim options, but not for me. MSFS fits my flightsim desires perfectly.

That  it is a WIP is abundantly clear now for all simmers to see 😄.  That is  the reason why we should tell them, loud and clear, when it hurts. Tough love, you know and all that.

If you're going to write a 'Hey Microsoft how long the charade will go on ?' question, shouldn't you be sending it to Microsoft?

Believe it or not, I had the feeling that they would close my thread in a blink there 😁 and anyway doesn't that Neuman fellow take any opportunity to tell us that they browse all FS forums for feedbacks. You would not say that they lie, would you ?

Out of the box even with it's spikes MSFS is light years ahead of any other "out of the box" sim...  Is it perfect, no but my goodness they are modelling the entire globe like we have never seen quite frankly even with all those add-ons from prior sims.

As a frequent flyer in the boondocks I cannot but agree with you.  That is one of the reason why I moved to MFS. But keeping things in perspective doesn't  imply to close our big mouth when we are not happy.

I’ve been using flight sims since 1994. This is leaps and bounds better than what we have. I mean, let’s look at what we have and had. P3Ds flight model isn’t very good at all, in fact very linear. What P3D has is the high fidelity aircraft that were mostly ported over from fsx. Aircraft that took 5-10 years to creat for fsx. Remember the fslabs A320, that wasn’t released that long ago... I’m not hating on P3D but I quit after 4.5 because it was fsx 2.0. X-plane is refreshing but even that has its limits. What we have in the new sim is a very impressive new base sim. I haven’t seen spikes on my flights, I haven’t had crashes or anything crazy. I don’t have a top of the line system. The weather engine, even if not 100% accurate, is better than what the other sims have even with 3rd party programs. Flight sim isn’t perfect, none of them are. Enjoy the sims that give you joy and pleasure. For me it’s the new sim, I uninstalled p3d. I still have x-plane but I haven’t used it in a while. P3D hasn’t been perfect, and in some cases takes months to update issues. Maybe that’s a better method, maybe not. We get new content every so often. This new sim updates Nav data, never been done in base. I say enjoy the sims that bring you joy.

Interesting thoughts. Jose.  The feeling I have is that MFS suffers from an original sin. The developer leads didn't take the time to play with  the existing sims a couple of months and set up a focus group of simmers to see what worked, what didn't and what was missing in P3D or XP11.

They deboned FSX, an outdated sim and put most of it aside (well maybe except for the bad turboprop simulation 🤣). They wanted to recreate everything from scratch.  So we see now, all the teething pains of a new sim. We shouldn't.

WIP yes. But they really have to correct the basics as a priority.

They have a road map, so stop complaining.
Mesh correction is planned later in the year or for early 2022.

Optimism is great, but reality is not always the same. The roadmap assumed that from launch the progress would always be in a forward direction.

There are places that have errors or don't look as good but there are plenty of places to fly low and slow that are fantastic like Florida USA with photogrametry ON.  I had the most wonderful little flight yesterday with mostly clear skies and really realistic turbulence.  The clouds were thicker as I neared my destination later in the day at Naples. It was my kind of flying.

I love the new sim and I know that eventually they will make the bad areas (and mistakes) look better/fixed but until then there really are good places to fly.  New Zealand looks good to me.  The UK seems pretty good.  I suspect France looks good but I havent been there yet.

This is NOT about  what works or what is better, my friend, we more or less  all agree that MFS is rather better in many aspects than its predecessors. It is about telling the team that there are basic things that should work and don't. The underlying mesh has numerous artifacts  all over the world and doestn't work well with coastlines. And if we want that corrected,  we'd better tell them. On the 2022 roadmap ? My foot 🤣 !

100% agree. They asked the community for help. They asked beta testers for help. They are still asking for help. Thankfully the community is delivering.

You have the premium version?

How many add-ons have you purchased?

You did not think that when the servers went down was not an annoyance or an inconvenience to you?

All relevant questions.

This is the right attitude. Life is too short lol

Always remember, MSFS 2020 also started out as an XBox release - so they were not interested in providing high-quality payware-type aircraft: That would have raised the buy-in price to be almost unaffordable for many.  But they knew that the innovative world scenery would absolutley wow all comers - both PC and Xbox users - which it certainly did!

Microsoft also know that serious simmers would certainly sit back and be patient, waiting for all the bad bugs to get fixed - and they were spot-on with that decision - that's where we are today...

I notice the people who are not too happy about the constant issues after every update are not posting in the 'thanks Microsoft / Asobo' thread, as it isn't right to rain on their parade and start unnecessary arguments.  It would be childish wouldn't it?

So, I just wish the MS / Asobo worshipers would stop posting and belittling peoples valid complaints in this thread.

It is a good sim, but some of the issues and regressions with the updates are unprofessional (being polite).

I paid full whack for the premium edition and it is a great sim; I wouldn't be without it.  But they get no hero worship from me, I cannot avoid criticising them for this latest flaps fiasco and saying there will be no fix until the next update - it is just plain wrong of them.
It's not that it happens; it is the response that is wrong - similar to the spike issue.

I'll put my "serious simmer" tittle against any simmer, developer, or ASOBO staff. I jumped in head first and expect better and more and my wallet is where the proof lies.

Totally agree! But note, in my signature I am thankful, yet critical. 😉 It's not what you say, it's how you say it.

Ask yourself, if you were the developer - who would you be more eager to listen to - the guy who complains in an emotional wall of text, or the one arguing reasonably.

It's up to you, who you wanna be. But you can expect some conflict with the first option.

Happy with MSFS 🙂
home simming evolved

Just quick.

DX12 might help its (Hyperthreading) Rolling cache issues too so fingers crossed. Good old days of FS2002 wont return and there were only service packs to fix issues.

Good for you to actually bring up this thread. But all software, Sim or otherwise is now in free fall condition now and only going to get worse.
