February 21, 20215 yr I just want to convey a simple thank you to Microsoft, Asobo, Partners and Developers for this wonderful new simulator, no ifs, no buts. To me, it's been a great start for the sim, and a great journey in just six months. And I look forward to the improvements that all of you will no doubt be bringing to this simulator in the years ahead. I started simming from FSX through to P3D because of a love of aircraft and flying, which I never pursued in real life. But to my surprise, the interest morphed to include other aspects of simulation, which were never fulfilled, until MSFS 2020 came along. Yesterday I flew Liverpool-Newcastle and Edinburgh-Dundee in the UK, in the stock Cirrus via stock flight plan on the Garmin glass cockpit, deviating at various points of the route for visual diversions using the drone. Today I flew Outer Skerry-Kirkwall in the Cirrus again (just made it on take off), then San Fran- Los Angeles in the stock TBM 930, again with stock flight plans via the Garmin 3000, again with drone diversions, including skimming the roadway of the Golden Gate among the cars on it. I have no special skills, neither in computers, nor in flying, but the experience I've had so far with MSFS 2020 is bliss. I just hope others who've enjoyed this simulator could also add a word of encouragement to the people who've worked so hard to get this project out .
February 21, 20215 yr For a base package costing about £50, what MS/Asobo have achieved, and what they are still achieving in terms of free world updates, is nothing short of astonishing. It's easy to overlook that given all the criticism. They've certainly rekindled my passion for flight simulation. Edited February 21, 20215 yr by spacedyemeerkat
February 21, 20215 yr Indeed. The quality of the scenery terrain plus the weather/lighting was something we thought we would get to in a decade or so with the legacy sims.
February 21, 20215 yr Yes it is truly an amazing simulator, it really is! Yesterday I was flying around the coast of Cornwall in the UK at 2000 feet with live weather on and I was genuinely gobsmacked at what I was looking at, watching the waves crash against the cliff face, just the whole setting, it looked so real, bloody amazing how they have made this possible, so from me to....thank you Asobo and Microsoft...hell of an achievement for sure!! February 21, 20215 yr As someone who has been simming since FS2, the new sim is awesome. Shame about the bugs and cockups along the why but I'm confident that the developers will eventually sort it out. In the meantime, I'm just enjoying the ride. February 21, 20215 yr I don't think there's ever been a better time to get into flight simulation, and I've been into it since FS2000. In my view progress had been largely quite stagnant over the last decade. P3D brought it up a bit in recent years but it still had (has?) the legacy engine at its core and caters very much for the niche market. MSFS has brought it right up to date with a commitment to support, update and improve for years to come, and I think most importantly has made it more accessible than ever to all. February 21, 20215 yr I have simming friends who actually say fsx and xp11 with orbx is more accurate than msfs2020 . They need help in my opinion .
February 21, 20215 yr I should hope they feel encouraged. They did/are doing a great job imo. I know it has flaws but every time I fly, I'm amazed that the scenery is default. With previous sims I would have had to pay hundreds and hundreds of extra dollars to achieve something not even this good. and then there is just the way my analog gauge C172 flies. It seems quite real to me. It looks real. It 'feels' real. It brings me joy. | Dave | I've been around for most of my life. February 21, 20215 yr Well said. I chucked it for a while due to add-on fatigue but I'm back at it with just the A32nx mod by FlyByWire and the Navigraph databse. I'll buy the ProATC/X add-on if it ever comes out but I've no need for anything else. Loving it. February 21, 20215 yr Fully agreed. Flying since FS4 and did a longer break from summing due to family, work and well getting tired of FSX on my meager rig. Since MSFS I am fully hooked up again, caused also by continued home office, so my only upside on Covid. Since WU3 the sim runs even smoother. I am far from ultra but have primarily high settings with medium here and there and simming experience and immersion is waaaay better than FSX. I‘m loving it Phil Leaven i5 10600KF, 32 GB 3200 RAM, ASUS 4070 12GB EVO, Asus ROG Z490-H, 2 WD Black NVME for each Win11 (500GB) and MSFS (1TB), Rolling Cache 16GB, Photogrammetry always OFF, Live Weather and Live Traffic always ON, Res 2560x1440 on 27"
February 21, 20215 yr Yes, current warts and all I am thoroughly enjoying this SIM. Thank you Asobo/MS! Now, how about putting in a good word to MS bosses about a revival of the Links golf franchise. With today's technology, it would be amazing! Ken
February 21, 20215 yr In a world full of negativity and pessimism. Of contempt hidden in anonymity. It is a pleasure to read messages of support and positivism. I also love this simulator. Not only does it have potential but it is also a huge enjoyment. Iñigo Bildarratz
February 21, 20215 yr This sim brought me to the vfr experience witch i was never interested in on P3D and the previous ones. Sad because of the lack of lessons, but paired with fs academy i really feel i am a flight student 😉
February 21, 20215 yr Flew in to LaGuardia airport last night. Flying the approach, past those apartment buildings on final looked just like real life. Amazing. Just landed now at KMFD, and opened the cabin window and heard the sound of the rain coming down on the ramp... Priceless. Edited February 21, 20215 yr by Bobsk8
