With Flightsim.to being the place to go to and where a lot of freeware developers upload their creations to, I personally can't see the need for a gateway run by MS/ASsobo/Orbx. What will be the difference between an "official" gateway and Flightsim.to? Jorn Lundtoft I don't always stop and look at airplanes.........Oh wait, Yes I do. What will be the difference between an "official" gateway and Flightsim.to? The difference is that the airports edited by the community would be part of the base sim, so we wouldn‘t have to download them separately. Also, default airports could be updated more systematically. This could be a good way to update taxiways and signage for example. But I agree, with flightsim.to et al it doesn‘t seem to be as urgent anymore as it appeared to be a few months ago. i9-11900K, RTX 4090, 32 GB ram, Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, TCA Airbus sidestick and quadrant, Reverb G2

What will be the difference between an "official" gateway and Flightsim.to? Flightsim.to is of no use to Xbox users and equally is of no use to users who don't hang around the MS forum or other forums such as this. Just because you and a few thousand other users know about that site doesn't mean that the majority of MFS users is aware of it, The better the experience that new users get the more likely that they may stay around for the long term. What will be the difference between an "official" gateway and Flightsim.to? The Scenery Gateway idea has nothing to do with this. And if I’m not mistaken, the goal is to also provide a user-based approval process as well, so that in case of multiple submissions for the same airport, the preferred one is identified both for users who can download it, and for Microsoft to officially distribute it. Please open the following link and read what this is about:https://gateway.x-plane.com/ Someone has posted some more info you might want to read here:https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/how-is-the-scenery-gateway-system-coming-along/385698/12?u=cptlucky8

Think of the top 50 scenery and airport addons in the whole of flightsim.to site, ranked for quality and performance. Now imagine if these were integrated into the base sim scenery that is streamed to every single MSFS user. We won't have to wait for world updates or download addons and hope you got your money's worth or that it doesn't brick your sim. With a Microsoft backed gateway system, all these submissions are heavily vetted by admins for quality and performance and will be pushed into the sim so every user can enjoy it free of charge. This system is fueled by every simmer's individual passion to have their home airports/sceneries to be accurately represented. The collective efforts of many can lead to rapid and accurate development of the sim's scenery and airport database. Flightsim.to is a great website, but as someone else here has pointed out, not many will be aware of it, or will have the appetite for dozens of addons, or have a PC that can support them all. With the Gateway System you can ensure seamless access and compatibility for every single PC and XBOX user.

(this is not working when selected properly in the parameters of the sim). There ought to be a way to make this transition from one unit to the other automatically depending on the area overflown. The US pressure unit is only used in a very limited part of the world and it should be relatively easy to implement it accordingly. In the same spirit, the few countries using meters for altitude unit instead of feet could also be automatically selected whenever we overfly one. These may sound like small details to those flying exclusively above the same country but would contribute to the immersion to the more adventurous ones... Edited May 25, 20215 yr by Jean-Claude
