Has Asobo broken something? SU4 & additional addon airports

Featured Replies

Hope this is not really a broken part of the sim.

At the moment, I cannot get the "World" screen to recognize the ICAO of additional addon airports. That is to say, addon airports that are not in the default simulator. Thus, one cannot start at one of those additional addon airports. (Maybe other functions are missing as well.) My tests have to do with a number of addons for Papua New Guinea – a place where the additional addons are important.

Further, at first glance, it appears that Asobo have changed something about the terrain and vegetation fit with the addon airports (in Papua New Guinea at least). Now the additional addons are now ill-placed and have slopes and trees in various places that the authors did not intend. (The addons do appear, but are drastically affected by something new in SU4.) Has Asobo changed the way the simulator treats these addons?

I can be almost certain about this problem as I visited a number of those additional addon airports mere hours before installing Sim Update 4. They were excellent contributions to the community hours ago. They are inaccessible and broken contributions now after SU4.

Has anyone else experienced this change?

I hope that this is not really a problem with the program and merely reflects my own setup. (My apologies in advance to Asobo if this is merely a misunderstanding on my part. I'd appreciate suggestions here if that is the case.)

Or if our Asobo friends have broken things, then I suppose that I am severely disappointed in their efforts. I sincerely hope that they will be able to fix this fundamental problem.

Do you have an example of a ICAO that is not working?

// 5800X3D // RTX 3090 // 64GB RAM // HP REVERB G2 //

Just a thought... Try turning off the rolling cache and manual cache (if used). Load up MSFS and see how it looks. If good, turn the cache(s) back on again.

Only ones I see missing are ones added by Navigraph.

Thanks all for responding.

First, to be sure, we are talking about additional addon airports. Where by additional I mean airports that are not in the default database. (So for one to experience this, one has to have installed such an additional addon airport.)

In Papua New Guinea, I examined AIBA, AUJ, AYRJ, YIFKI, AYWP and AYYZ. [AIBA and YIFKI are fictional ICAO codes.] These are airports created by authors (4 different authors) to enhance one's "bush flying" experience. Available at Flightsim.to. Yesterday they were great. Today, after SU4, not so much. One cannot find them in the "World" dropdown window – while one could before SU4. And on actually visiting the airports, one finds a mess with trees and strange slopes covering what had been an excellent addon before SU4.

I just checked additional addon Anglemont (XCAA3) [fictional ICAO] in the BC Bush Pack up on Shuswap Lake in British Colombia. Mostly fine but the terrain seems to have warped slightly since yesterday. (Not sure about this last one.)

BTW. All these additional addon airports have their navigation information in a format that is readable by LittleNavMap. But not readable by MFS.

Hope we can either confirm the problem or at least encourage me to solve a glitch on this end.

Thanks,
Mike

PS. @JimBrown Both the rolling and manual caches are off. Thanks ... that makes sense but is not the problem here.

I have the same experience, all my Netherlands airbases like EHGR,EHVK, EHEH EHLW etc. are gone, although they are in the Community folder.

please open a zendesk ticket and report this issue to Asobo.

I saw that also. The airports are there when you fly there, thoough.

I can no longer find AIBA either.. although it is still enabled in the linker.

So is it just not adding them to the world map database?

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

So wasn't there a possible fix to try? May not work though? Quit the sim, rename the content.xml folder say content-1.xml , and it will rebuild your scenery database? Worked for me once when I could not get a scenery to load in the sim. Your mileage may vary! And then I deleted the content-1.xml folder. Although I have to say a friend had one scenery that would not work, even trying this. Although it does work since todays update. Go figure!

BE VERY CAREFUL!
