Free Top Gun: Maverick Expansion releasing November 19 2021

Featured Replies

If this can bring one single thing that would work well for this expansion, it would be a fly by camera. Couldn’t be more basic than that.

My view - user developers don't encrypt. and commercial developers encrypt.   So I think the determining factor is whether the content comes from a commercial developer.

Everything you pay for on the Marketplace is encrypted, but none of the free stuff is.

The free world updates, developed by Asobo, are not encrypted. This expansion is also going to be free, and I assume Asobo is working on it, so the best bet is that it won't be encrypted.

Think there will be an X-Box area in the Avsim Forums? Just for people that want to discuss MSFS on X-Box?

This is why people despise Avsim....stuff like this right here👆

Asus Maximus X Hero Z370/ Windows 10
MSI Gaming X 1080Ti (2100 mhz OC Watercooled)
8700k (4.7ghz OC Watercooled)
32GB DDR4 3000 Ram
500GB SAMSUNG 860 EVO SERIES SSD M.2

This is likely designed to coincide with the theatrical release for promotional purposes....

SAR Pilot. Flight Sim'ing since the beginning.

A far-fetched idea, how could you even think of it ? Next thing,  you will tell us Microsoft entered in some kind of arrangement with Paramount to help promoting the movie and, Heavens forbid !, get paid for it.

Pure coincidence !

So you agree with me?   You just restated my position.

It really is a brilliant move…people go watch Top Gun 2, feel the urge to be a fighter pilot, find out that they can virtually fly like one if they buy MSFS.  Great marketing idea.

When I was a kid after I watched top gun I would play with my die cast metal planes and reenact movie scenes…can only imagine how cool it would have been to be able to virtually fly like Top Gun!

If these kind of promotions help fund and improve base sim features, I'm all for them.

Plus it gets us new planes.

Those non flexing wings on the Hornet are a big no no!

What? The wings absolutely flex on the hornet - enough it makes one wonder how they don't break off. 40K pound aircraft at 9 G's and those wings just strain, bend and hang on!

I think they meant the wings in the trailer.

Meh. I’d rather just go play DCS F-18 module with the Super Carrier module.

Well, yeah me too, but it's $130 to buy both of those modules, whereas the one coming to MSFS will be included content.

Speaking as a guy who got into DCS because carrier operations in P3d, to put it mildly, suck, I'm almost sad to see this addon coming. If something like this had been in the base sim I was using at the time, I might never have started with DCS. I never cared about combat flying, just wanted to see if I could consistently land on a carrier. Being forced to use DCS for that opened up an ACM interest, and now I have lots of fun with that as well.

That said, if someone just wants to drill holes in the sky and shoot carrier traps, it's nice that there may soon be a way to do that without dropping over $100 on it.

Free content from the dev is cool... and not expected. Quality will be what it will be.... I think its pretty neat. They are smart, and know with the XBOX release that people will want fast movers.

This option is also nice if you want to have some fun with friends. Not everyone will want to go and buy DCS plus any of the additional modules if they really don't want to do the whole combat simulation. But flying fast in the world of MSFS and also low level flying through the valleys of Wales/Scotland and other parts of the world is going to be fun to do.
