Warning do not start Windows 11 in safe mode you will be hosed - good thing I know what Im doing got it back - that was a close one - wanted to change a services command in safe mode due to in normal mode the service is access denied - in safe mode you have no windows toolbar and minimal files

Microsoft couldnt figure it out so I persisted and found msconfig exe and it launched - dont do it 🙂

It has admin issues for sure

Presumably the controlled use of it was developed -- by beta testers?

I heard the alpha was combustible.

Hello,

Asus has updated their Bios for W11 compatibility.
If you have an Asus motherboard that is not compatible, check it.

My motherboard was incompatible.
I flashed the new  bios dated 2021-08-09.
Now, my computer is "W11 ready"

Another Microsoft nightmare.

I upgraded Windows 10 with Windows 11. (w11 was released today)
No need to use a Microsoft account. Strange as it's a pre-requisite !

Could not start FS2020
I upgraded Nvidia drivers with W11 Nvidia drivers
-> problem solved

Could not start Linux, my main OS -> reinstalled grub as W11 changed my fat32 UEFI partition UUID
-> problem solved

Secure boot is disabled and I can boot Linux !
Strange as Secureboot is requested by microsoft

No other issue.
That was not a nightmare.
Nightmare is when a major Windows update fails and you need to reinstall it  from scratch !

I then removed all W10 files using cleanmgr !

I'm ready for a couple of years !
By by W10.

just jumped right into Win11, too. Upgrade no hassle at all. Updated some 14 apps from the MS store, updated nvidia and now comes the magic moment when I start MSFS for the first time. Simbrief prepared and loaded. Will report. FWIW, I did not a clean install but updated my existing Win10

Phil, please report back - it would be a very valuable piece of information.

Thanks

well, actually all fine. no impact whatsoever, very smooth and no stutters at all on my end, fps capped at 30 though since many weeks. had a smooth flight from LSZH into LSGG, possible subjective smoother than before but may just be wishful thinking. there is however a metal tower pretty straight in front of the threshold RWY 22 at Geneve when I came down the glide slope, had to apply full throttle and climb quickly, which let me also drop too quick onto the rwy and caused substantial gear damage 🙂

And how was the migration to W11 done? Just download and install?

yep, used the Win11 installation assistant at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11, had to start the download 3-4 time before it actually downloaded

I can't upgrade to win 11, my cpu just about too old (i7 7700k), disappointing.

Using the assistant, I wrote an usb key : I can now also upgrade my wife's computer with this key !

No issue with Fs 2020.
Migration was  quite long - maybe 20 minutes  with an nvme ssd...

So is it worth it to upgrade?

See if you can upgrade your BIOS. You might solve your problem.

IMO no. I tried it for a few days and rolled back to Win10.

List of missing features (the most annoying those related to the taskbar... HOW could they do that?)
