July 26, 20214 yr Will this update really require that all addons be removed from the community folder? What else do I need to do to cause the least amount of headaches?
July 26, 20214 yr You don't have to do anything, but if you don't, you might get problems that are difficult to trace. I've never bothered removing addons from my community folder unless they were know to cause issues, but I only have about 15 so it's easy for me to keep track - YMMV. July 26, 20214 yr I don't even empty my community folder anymore (since they made it difficult to move files out of it). Not sure if I've been lucky or what, but I have had no issues updating. To be fair, the only mods I'm running is scenery and a few aircraft along with the working title gps stuff. Tons of 3rd party scenery that never seems to have an issue. Not sure what else is different about my system, but again updating itself works fine. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
July 26, 20214 yr I only have about 20, yet I still use Add On Linker, best program ever, cause it is so easy to use and turn everything off or on, or just choose what you are going to fly for that flight. And it has an option to skip the Intro screens. Since getting it and an SSD, startup is really fast now and everything is faster cause of the SSD. Best money I have spent for flight simulation! Besides my first gaming PC in 2019 🙂 And MSFS runs great on it, no problems at all. Umm you might want to keep that to yourself. Time for the Update prayer 🙂 "Coffee, if your not shaking, you need another cup" Flight Sim Break Discord Channel: https://discord.com/invite/fCV62Ka2QZ
July 26, 20214 yr I use addon linker, and I will remove everything, as there may actually be some incompatibilities with this update. I will then add stuff back in gradually while keeping an eye on the forums to see what is developing and what needs updating - there could be a fair bit! It wouldn't hurt to take a backup of your user config file, as it is very small. I will do this just to compare and see if there are any changes made in the file after the update. July 26, 20214 yr Same .. Addon linker and the only thing ive got installed that may pose an issue is the FBW stable build. But i made sure to install that using the FBW installer and made sure the files were placed in my self made addons folder.. after which its linked to the official community folder. Before the update .. Addon linker and unlink all.. done. .. Run update Addon linker is a must have in order to remove all doubt in the update process .. at least for me. July 26, 20214 yr Having stuff in your community folder while downloading the update won't effect it. They suggest emptying (I just rename the folder so it doesn't load) it, just in case there's incompatible addons with the new update. Like you could have addons that crash the sim in the new version. July 26, 20214 yr Another vote for using the addon linker, simply turn off all your addons, install update, and then re-enable them as required, also checking to see if there are any issues as you use them. Simples! AMD Ryzen 7 5800x3d, MSI X570 Pro, 32 gb DDR4 3600 ram, Gigabyte 6800 16gb GPU, 1x 2tb Samsung NvMe , 1x 2tb Sabrent NvME, 1x Crucial 4tb Nvme M2 Drive
July 26, 20214 yr Its best to remove them. Asobo has said some of the data files have changed and they will cause CTD for lots of addons

July 26, 20214 yr Am I the only one who never removed/rename the community folder before any update? 🤔 AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 64GB DDR5 6000MHZ RAM, RX7900XT, FreeSync 165hz 1440p display
