MSFS looks better than ever!

Featured Replies

Did 2 flights one at St. Barths to St. Kitts and one around Naples.  Shore lines look perfect now and everything looks great.  One CTD but then all was well.  Naples seems to have new photogrammetry.

Yes I agree, it's looking much better now. I think there may still be some slight degradation of the anti aliasing, but I can't be too sure. Maybe others with more discerning eyes can share their thoughts as well. Overall very nice. Performance is good, lighting seems to be fixed. One other thing is I'm not sure if the beacon and nav lights are working on the DC-6, I know they weren't before. It appears to me if I zoom in close enough they're on but if I zoom out a bit (nothing crazy) they disappear. Again not a big deal.

The FPS does feel particularly smooth but it could be a placebo.

That is the way it was before the hotfix.

Agreed as well, looks a thousand times better! Pretty happy…now if only my honeycomb alpha and bravo can arrive!

Completely agree, took a flight from my home town of Gary, In up the Chicago Shore, and I was just delighted.  This sim has never looked or performed better.  So much so, that I turned terrain LOD up to 4.0, and it barely dampened the FPS.

I greatly appreciate Asobo getting this hot fix out today instead of letting it linger into next week.

First time checking out Naples in the sim. It does look great in 4K on Ultra

How did you set your LOD to 4?

Cheers, Ed

I don’t recall the performance being this good in the past.

Through the usercfg file.  You can go all the way up to 9.

Ok, thanks. I know that, but maybe that procedure is not the one MS/Asobo wanted to be used with SU5 (plus the hotfixes). To me, unless I do the same as you did, the LOD issue of limited coverage is still around and needs further improvement and it would be better if the changes are made directly using the sliders.

Cheers, Ed

You have always had the ability to increase LOD beyond the 200 the sliders give.  This is not an SU5 thing.

The only issue with it is the game will commonly reset it back to 200 the next time you start unless you make the config file read only.

Most people think the reason they limit it to just 200 is that a lot of people (including reviewers) are obsessed with "Ultra" settings regardless of what that Ultra setting  actually is. People just want the street cred of saying I can run game xxx at max settings and get yyy FPS. Making the LOD go to say 500 on so will kill performance on mediocre systems.  This is compounded by the fact that a lot of people with a 3 year old 8GB/i7/1080ti rig mistakenly think it is still "high end" and should handle max settings in game at 4K, whereas by modern standards that sort of 3 year old rig is now definitely mid-range.

Nothing bad will happen to your game or PC if you try it at say 300. if it causes too much of a performance hit just reset it to 200.

I'm pretty sure every other patch the sim looks better than ever haha!

Is the consensus to HDR on or off? Just turned it on for first time and some amazing effects, but looking awfully dark at times also? Did not seem to impact FPS at all?
