Largish HDR 1440p and 4K gaming monitors are available at acceptable prices these days as are VR headsets.

The graphics cards needed to drive those devices are not.

 

The current sweet spot is probably a 32" 1440p HDR screen with a 3060/3070 level graphics card.

Most people think the reason they limit it to just 200 is that a lot of people (including reviewers) are obsessed with "Ultra" settings regardless of what that Ultra setting  actually is. People just want the street cred of saying I can run game xxx at max settings and get yyy FPS. Making the LOD go to say 500 on so will kill performance on mediocre systems.  This is compounded by the fact that a lot of people with a 3 year old 8GB/i7/1080ti rig mistakenly think it is still "high end" and should handle max settings in game at 4K, whereas by modern standards that sort of 3 year old rig is now definitely mid-range.

Nothing bad will happen to your game or PC if you try it at say 300. if it causes too much of a performance hit just reset it to 200.

Will it revert back to 200 after starting or after saving applying graphic settings ingame? Not sure which one it was...

I wouldn´t go as far as saying better than ever but it definitely looks great again and we even gained some FPS compared to SU4. It must be  mindblowing for those that didn´t notice a graphical degradation after SU5.

I was just getting 35-38 fps landing at KSEA with nearly full Ultra settings.

I did a flight last night from KTEB, went south round manhattan North then NE to Bradley in the 36G. 4,000ft.

With LOD at 4.0/4.0 and I was totaly and utterly blown away by how the only redraw and pop in seemed to be where LOD 200 would end. Unless a did a super fast 180. Its was breathtaking smooth full ultra. Not one stutter one pause..nothing.

The store update ran this morning with no probelms but will not get to see what HF2 is like till tomorrow.

Same here I'm running ultra 4k with an i7. 8700k 1080 ti and my flight in the wt cj4 from ybbn to yssy was visually amazing and super Smooth with fps ranging from 35 to 55 fps

It's only 'fake news?' when new reveals make for another opinion. I so laugh at the 'fake news' moniker that was a political party/executive of the day---injection phrase, and has nothing to do with anything else, really. 🙂 I believe that the dismal performance suggested highly that was the case...but with the latest release,  that is less of a speculated probability. Nothing 'fake' about that...merely a new data set to currently make judgement upon.  This 'fake news' moniker, is just that...a moniker invented by a prior political administration, and those administrations get voted in...and voted out, every four years, like the tide.

Anyways, I seem to have lost a frame or two. A trade off I am more than happy to make if it keeps the P3D/XPlane trolls out of this forum and the pacifier firmly planted in the mouths of the usual "Asobo's head on a spike"

With my first flight post Hotfix...I lost 5 FPS on average, but then something happened...with doing no changes....nothing but flying,  I saw my FPS creep back up and stay at my pre SU5 Hotfix of 29-31 FPS on Ultra with Bloom off, and A.A. at 8x8. It has stayed there...so you might with usage see your FPS come back. 

I am very impressed.

The look is mostly back (still a bit of overexposure for me but there always has been some since the beginning) but the optimization is flabbergasting I can fly, on my oldish rig (see sig), the Cub around Manhattan at 200/200, textures on high, at 30 fPS. I get some red "spectral lines" but the feeling of smoothness is reasonably good.

My first feeling : SU5 HF2 is a winner.
