August 10, 20214 yr PG draw distance, and thus the distance you will see PG city skylines in the air, has definitely been reduced with SU5. You can get some of it back by increasing your terrain LOD setting. The amount you can increase it depends on your hardware of course. Ken

The popping is a lot worse than in rural areas, network connection drops which seems to be stemming from constantly loading scenery as I fly along, and stuttering/pauses with a uniform frequency meaning you can predict when the next stutter will happen like clock work (ever three seconds). Once away from cities the sim runs fine. That, was pre SU5 for me. I'm shocked at just how good it runs all ultra on my lowly 2070 Super thru the most complex cities. This is always where things would fall apart for me pre SU5, especially on final to a complex terminal. I finally learned to set sliders down far enough to cope w/ that pre-SU5, but now I can pretty much stay at Ultra no matter where I'm at. Here's a recent shot from SU5 near KLAX. Over London I had less than 30 fps before SU5, Paris was almost unflyable with less than 25 fps - both with the Spitfire or Savage Cub. Today I had 40 to 45 fps over Paris. BTW: No "popping and morphing mess" at all, but I use an LOD of 3.0. Same with LOD 300. Once away from cities the sim runs fine. Another thing I noticed is when taking off in the Ft. Lauderdale area I used to be able to look south at around 3,000ft and see the Miami sky line. Now that's gone. Not sure if I need to adjust a setting somewhere as some are reporting great results after the second hotfix for SU5. The popping is pretty bad, but as far as I understand that's in the fix for the next update. I just flew over Miami as well, the draw distance is way too close, and that's at LOD 200 everything on Ultra. It should be at least twice as far as out. The frame rates were very good though. I modified both LOD values several times (to 5 or 4) and it never reset itself during restarts as long as I don't touch sliders in MSFS. Plus, I really see an improvement in the LOD radius (trees and stuff as well as PG). Usercfg.opt is NOT write-protected (and I wouldn't dare to protect it). Values of 4 and even 5 work well on my system without a noticeable fps loss, while higher values incur a hard performance loss. I guess it's just a limit where my memory is exhausted and the system starts swapping (just a guess).
