It just froze. And then I noticed this file being created when starting the sim, in the same folder as UserCfg: builderlogerror.txt The builderlogerror file just says "Could not open file". Question: Is it possible to delete UserCfg file and let the sim create it when starting? What will happen to my settings? Will I only have to set the graphics setting again, or control profiles too? Yes you can please read.... When I delete it and you MUST do the same... Keep the top line where it says you graphic card details. Just so I understand correctly: - Make a backup of it - Copy the graphics info and install path info - Delete file - Let MSFS create new one - And then after I've started MSFS, I leave it and copy the info back into the UserCfg file? Or are you saying delete the rest of the file, but keep the graphics info and install location? Sorry if I'm asking stupid questions. I modified both LOD values several times (to 5 or 4) and it never reset itself during restarts as long as I don't touch sliders in MSFS. Plus, I really see an improvement in the LOD radius (trees and stuff as well as PG). I believe (but I'm not going to stake my life on it), that you have to make sure the "preset" value in the cfg file is set to "custom" and in that case it leaves any changes you make untouched. I've certainly never had my cfg file reset. I also believe that if you do change the slider in the menu, it will then reset the LOD in the cfg, which is sensible. {Graphics Version nnn Preset custom . . . Like most of this stuff, it would all be a lot easier if MS / Asobo would just publish some information about how it all actually works. If they're making the actual files and parameters physically available anyway, then not providing info on how to use the d*mn things is just asking for trouble. cheers, Andy (oh, and as to the original question here, I'm one of those who's found performance has gone up everywhere, and since the HF2, so has the LOD and all the visuals. My only problem now is having to take the cover off my PC case to try and keep the GPU temp down a bit - it's gone way up since all these changes. Keep Version 66 {Video Adapter "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080" and } InstalledPackagesPath "D:\MSFS" Thank you so much! I appreciate your help. 😄 If I set it to LOD 3.0 it will load, but it still creates that BuilderLogError.txt file. I lost about 10 fps going from LOD 2.0 to LOD 3.0. But man, it makes a huge difference in how far out into the distance I can see. LOD 3.0 is perfect for me. August 10, 20214 yr Regarding the BuilderLogError file in LocalCache: It gets deleted when the sim starts. Then recreated while starting when the opening screen goes to black for a few seconds. After researching it, it seems to be related to encryption. Some people are having a general encryption issue where you're not allowed to copy / cut files and paste them out of the MSFS folder system. AddonsLinker bypasses this issue. The BuilderLogError file seems to be related to this somehow, but the sim works fine anyway. It keeps showing up in people's LocalCache but doesn't affect the sim. The sim is still able to write to the UserCfg file, if I start the sim with LOD 3.0, and in sim change LOD to 200, the file changes to LOD 2.0 as well. So seems like all is well as long as I keep LOD at 3.0 or lower. LOD 4.0 causes my sim to freeze when loading up a flight after selecting airport / aircraft and so on. Such as 3.5 for example. Worth a little bit of experimentation to find your sweet spot, if you're so inclined. Ken

My take is its pretty much a trade for fps and smoothness, though, it's not a straight line. Linear increases in LOD have an ever increasing performance cost. I really like LOD of 5.0, but it is too expensive. 4.0 (with objectLOD left at 1.0) is a decent compromise for my priorities. Not happy with the notion of tinkering with the file and locking it, but it was an interesting exercise. Pretty clear now how Asobo magically improved performance LOL. I tried these suggestions and ended up with performance issues that was a little too much for my tastes. I set everything back and went in the sim and maxed out Terrain and Object detail to 200 and although not perfect it's much more acceptable than before, the sim actually looks allot better. Still popping but not as much and the building site distance leaves allot to be desired. With SU5 Hotfix 2 you can max more settings and see no performance hit like before in SU4 with cleaner graphical results.
