Anything uninstalled via the Content Manager, including liveries, should not be updated and/or reinstalled. At least, that is what my experience has been.

I removed all the Asobo "Flight Simulator" liveries through the Content Manager at one point. Much to my annoyance they were all re-installed with the following Sim Update. Can't recall which SU it was. Would be less of an annoyance if those liveries did not take up so much data - they add a ton of GB's to the update download size. After that I gave up and leave the liveries installed. Even so, every update since seems to update those liveries - a lot of uncessary data being downloaded!

My overall install with addons is only like 150, and I have a LOT of addons. Each update has been 20-30gb of data, a lot of which is replacing as others have said, overall size creep has been relatively decent.

People want sexy pretty gorgeous games, bigger textures need more space... heck, Red Dead 2, which is a far smaller area than this game, but massive for a shooter, is 110gb. Space takes space.

Just to be clear -- a point made many times in the past -- MSFS updates are typically only a few GB in terms of net addition to the sim, because most of the update files overwrite existing files. So the actual increase in disk space for MSFS is quite modest and gradual.

Agree.  On a recent routine update I checked the pre-update disk space used. It was 401GB.  I downloaded a 4.1GB update. Post update disk space used was 401GB ie it remained unchanged. So the update just replaced a whole lot of files with new ones and deleted the old ones.

Until the next time somebody gets confused about it!  On some topics, it's not a matter of debating ad nauseum -- it's just to clarify things, especially for folks who are new to MSFS.

I have to return to this problem, if someone could help me:

Last time I used MSFS was on Monday and all was ok, like it has been for me since 08/20. No re-installations, very few CTDs etc. Yesterday I had some spare time and decided to fly. Now, after checking for updates, it requires me to update 106GB.. What has happened? I tried again after rebooting several times, but I'm still stuck in this situation: Mandatory update, 106.40 GIB.

Is there a way to repair the situation? I have FBW A320 installed as well as AIG and couple of sceneries. And I am a Game Pass-user.

NEVER EVER going to even try to launch MSFS again. I'd rather fly X-Plane NINE than put up with these RIDICULOUS 116 GB updates. That's unfair to my internet provider and all the upstream entities that have to absorb the real costs of using this GAME as they call it.
I'm an avid simmer, well over 4000 hours in X-Plane 10 and 11. X-Plane 12 will be out soon. Anybody who puts up with this is just egging them on. 
Call me when they figure it out.

If you are getting 116 Gb updates, then something is wrong, and it is trying to completely reinstall the sim, maybe because you didn't select the correct install folder when asked during the update.  The updates tend to be a few gigabytes at most.  A recent one was only about 1.5 Gb.  Or maybe you just haven't started the sim for a year and they have all built up?  

It always amazes me when someone comments who has never experienced this issue, has clearly no idea why it happens and yet somehow is able to give expert advice on how its probably something the user did and not the softwares fault.
