Seriously, every time there's an update and I see all the pain over trying to update for those using the Xbox app, it makes me glad I went with Steam every time.  Zero issue updating ever other than download speed in game from MS's servers.  I didn't really want to use yet another game store just for one title so it was kind of a no brainer for me anyway.  The fact that it doesn't install things in ridiculous long/cryptic folders is a nice bonus as well.

Indeed. It's really rather incredible that the version purchased direct from Microsoft is harder to use than the Steam version.

Also still seems like Microsoft has a lot of work left to do in getting the message out that the term Xbox is often used to refer to a shared set of systems across the Xbox console and PC. Can understand why some people get confused in the meantime, though.

After installing the xbox app updating wnt smooth and fast.

You've got to realise that not everybody follows the forums and is a little bit lost when the get a message saying to update and there is nothing in the store. Updating is straight forward IF you know your way around.

That is very true, why didnt Microsoft just tell people they  had to install the Xbox app? The update was in the Microsoft store when I went to update, but when I tried I got an error message telling me to install the sim first!  Why do Microsoft have to make things so complicated.

Frustrated at the difficulties of initial install. Installed xbox and got there in the end, it was extremely irritating though.

In the stock Caravan I took off from Sion (payware) and up the valleys over Raron and then climbed up the valleys to the Matterhorn which looks a lot better than it did. Some of the mesh was popping but not too bad. The textures are much improved. Non of that low altitude snow in the summer that's been tinted green. The mesh looks much sharper.
From the Matterhorn down the valleys and arrived at Aosta. A beautiful, trouble free flight of about half an hour, which is all I can spare most times.

The installation procedure was annoying, yes, but I don‘t see that much that has got worse. The only thing I’ve noticed so far is the night lighting bug. The new imagery is stunning, so‘s the new DEM. The alps finally look like the alps and the latest photogrammetry cities are probably the best since the Japan update (at least the ones I‘ve checked out). I personally don‘t understand the doom and gloom this update has triggered, especially in the official forum. There are still loads of issues and I understand the frustration at the somewhat sluggish progress and newly introduced issues, but compared to other updates, for me, WU6 is one of the best world updates so far as it has massively improved what it’s supposed to improve - the scenery. The alps in particular look so much better now.

I just had a delightful flight with the Cub from Lucern to Mollis through Einsiedeln  in a CAVOK Live Weather with a little wind . Yesterday I did a quickie before going to bed between Saanen and Vevey. I am indeed impressed so far.

The imagery which was a horrible green fluo is now very convincing (colors and details), the mesh is sharp and the morphing was minimal .

If it was not for the obnoxious toolbar and some overexposure when looking down and up. ...

Both of these have solutions that continue to work after this update.

what is the solution for overexposure?

This edit to the usercfg.opt file works for me:

Quote

{PostProcess
        Enabled 1
        EyeAdaptation 0
        ColorGrading 0
        Sharpen 1
        Fringe 0
        LensDistortion 0
        Dirt 1
        LensFlare 0
        FilmGrain 0
        Vignette 0
        LensBlurMultiplier 1.500000
        FringeMultiplier 1.000000
    }

It has not been changed by the update.

EDIT: I also disable bloom, I prefer a hard edged sun to a constant nuclear explosion.

Toolbar : I’ve never CTD and I tend to think that my very cautious use of addons has something to do with it. This is something which belongs to the UI core and it is a shame that we need a 3PD palliative.

Overexposure : the Nvidia filters help a little. Editing the usercfg doesn’t work for me. It seems that the sim overrides the eye adaptation parameter. I will try again though with the update in.

Hi

I also had issues updating.

I was going around in circles until I found some forum topic which advised I needed to install some XBox thingy.

I have no clue as to why I needed an XBox thingy on a PC but apparently I did.

Once I installed the XBox thingy the update installed and appears to be working fine.

However MS need to be aware of user experience.

Why did I need to go searching other forums to find out I need to install the XBox thingy to get the update to install?

As these folk make operating systems, that we rely on to exist in 2021 how can the QA of a game update be so complicated?

Thanks for reading the thoughts of a Kiwi who is happy with the result but disappointed with the frustration I had during the update process.

best wishes

Bob

Update 6.

Update doesnt install.

Go on Forums.

100's of people with same issue.

They say install XBox on PC?

After installing it from XBox...hey what?

I dont have XBox?

Win 10 MSFS update 6 installs.

Annoying as it is, this is an issue with the MS Store, not with MSFS itself. I tried MSFS on MS Store using game pass in August 2020, I didn't like the store (and some technical details such as the contrived folder structure), so I bought it on Steam (where I already have plenty of games). Looks like it was a good decision... Anyway, I hope MS get their Store back into working order...

So lets get to testing the new FBW Bus with MCE?

NOPE!

FBW latest version doesnt like to work with U6!

Already had two flights with the FBW A320, the only issue I had was that at first start from cold & dark the engines took ages to spool up. Restarted that flight (Esc, Pos1) and everything worked just fine.

Nevermind, try a take off!

Anyone, try taking off from LOWI RW 08, RTT SID. (U6 scenery)

Now tell me you dont see the Devils Tower from Close Encounters of the Third kind?🥶

This has got to end for me.

I've seen some screenshots on the official forums, but it doesn't happen on my end. Just took a flight from LOWI to LOWW in the DC6, low and (relatively) slow, but I didn't see any Devil's Tower artifacts anywhere. Do you have any addon installed that affects the LOWI area? Did you clear your rolling cache?

I will be uninstalling MSFS in the near future.

Each and every update has got worse.

Enough already! MS you have messed up!

P3d will be my final resing place!

Sorry MSFS hopefuls, but this attempt at a simulator has failed, for me!

Best regards and good luck to you all.

David.

For me WU6 has been an improvement across the board. I acknowledge that others have issues, such as the night lighting problems when not at 100% render scale (I've been running at 100% anyway, so it didn't affect me), and yes, we all would've loved to see more bug fixes. But for me the performance is better than ever with the pre-caching set to Ultra, no CTDs so far, a clear improvement over SU5. Some more bugs than pre-SU5, less than before WU6, but as far as I'm concerned they're minor (I really would've been glad to see the airport history in the world map back in working order).

As far as I see it, the majority of issues and regressions we've seen in the first year were due to the fast pace of changes coming to the updates before being tested thoroughly. Looks like they've slowed down the pace a bit after SU5, but now people are complaining about their favourite bugs "still not being fixed". Ok, this wasn't your complaint in this thread, but I've seen it all over the place.

WU6 is a world update, so fixes in the sim itself aren't the main objective. This is what's SU6 is for. And I hope they keep aiming for stability instead of too many changes in a short time. This has always been a recipe for disaster.

Good luck with P3D.

Installing the app doesn’t mean you have an Xbox. It connects your gamer tag somehow. Bottom line is it was a 30 sec fix that worked.

It probably took more time to post about it here than to actually do it.
