We should demand better aircraft addons

Featured Replies

MSFS2020 represents a new generation in PC based flight simulation. It presents the world in which we fly  - the earth,  sky and weather – more accurately to the real world than anything previous. Yet aircraft addon developers seem to think they can just continue to sell their products without any significant upgrade in quality and accuracy. To my mind the only aircraft developers whose products are of suitable high quality for MSFS2020 are PMDG and A2A. PMDG so far has introduced only their DC-6 for MSFS2020, and most everyone seems to agree that this is a high-quality product worthy to fly in MSFS2020. I have it and agree.  So far nothing from A2A. I expect they want to take the time to do it right and retain their excellent reputation rather than rush something out. Just Flight’s PA28 is pretty good, but not to the level of A2A and PMDG. Carenado has been quick to revise their previous models, with the quality we have come to expect from them. I purchased their PA44 and M20R out of desperation to have a twin and a fast single. Disappointing. Even their textures are nothing to write home about. JustFlight's PA28 has exceptional textures, better than Carenado.  We flight simmers should not put up with this! We should demand high quality models, even if we have to pay more, and stop rewarding mediocrity. We need to get their attention. Vote with our wallets. It’s better to have 3 or 4 high quality aircraft that you are happy to fly in MSFS2020’s world than 10 or 20 inferior aircraft that are boring and we discontinue flying a few weeks after we purchase them and realize they are not worthy of our money, much less our time.

My system specs: Intel [email protected] - 5.2 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080, 32GB  DDR4  RAMNoctua NH-D15 CPU Cooler,1TB Seagate SSD, 4TB Seagate HD, Windows 10, Asus 32 inch monitor, Saitek Yoke, Throttle Quadrant, Rudder Pedals and Trim Wheel     Sims: MSFS2020      Preferred Aircraft  Black Square Bonanza, and Baron, A2A Comanche, PMDG DC-6, Red Wing L1049

I think what would help is if the MS Store had reviews of the products they are selling appear on their market. How many aircraft are sold there, with known bugs that will never be fixed properly, and the Market place and the developers of this garbage are raking in the money. I also read so many, even on this forum, that purchase these add ons and then try and excuse all the problems they see in these products. I read so many comments about aircraft, and the people say.. " Oh, I know this doesn't work, and this is'nt  realistic, but I like to fly it anyway. " As long as users have this attitude, the half baked products will continue to be sold.

You get what you pay for, generally speaking.  While I am a consumer that’s willing to pay more for quality, there are plenty of those that are more than happy with a “mediocre “ product in the $20-$50 price range.  Those consumers are just as important and I wouldn’t profess to tell them my way is “better.”

What I wonder, why do they even have Military Jets that don't, or can't do what they do?? Select a weapons loadout, land on a carrier, aerial refueling...and more.

All they do is fly, I guess.

What products have you seen in the plus $50 price range other than the DC6?

I’m hopeful that time will sort this out, having said that, I’m selective on my purchases, and the ones I’ve made so far I’m pretty happy with, including a few from Carenado.

I think we should be happy with what we have today and enjoy the Sim as it is. I dont feel entitled to demand anything as long as i havent contributed anything significant to the system myself.

I would agree. 'Demanding' better add-ons for a PC based Flight Sim is sooooo first world 😆

I guess thats just how people tend to be these days. I'm glad i have been raised different.

I think it is pretty typical up to this point. With relatively few choices people bought what was available, but as time goes by most people will get far more selective about what they purchase.

You are banging the same drum I have been for years, but no one is listening. People continually moan about the quality of a particular developer, but continue to buy products from them, presumably because of fear of missing out (FOMO)?

And sadly the mass market does not care for system fidelity, if it's pretty and it handles easily, they are happy.

Anyone demanding anything deserves nothing.

As for "mediocre" $25-$50 planes...   Can someone explain what's mediocre about the FI Spit or P-38L? The Just Flight Arrows? The Milvis planes out so far? I could go on....    Mediocre my word not allowed!  We have better planes in that price range than we've ever had in other sims.

If people stop buying junk developers will stop producing it.

With forums like this and YouTube there is no reason to 'risk it' with an addon anymore, its very easy to find out who is worth supporting and who isn't.

I would rather have too many , than not enough for MSFS . For me part of the fun in buying a addon is the research I do before buying it .
