How does MSFS look on a 32" 1440p panel?

Featured Replies

I'm currently on a 27" 1080p single-monitor display, but am building a new PC rig around an RTX 3080 and I think my ~8 y.o. LG 27" will serve well as a second monitor for LNM, Discord, etc. etc.

Is there enough "pixel density," or whatever the correct term is, in a 32" 1440p/165Hz monitor, to look really nice?

I'm over 50 and my eyesight is not getting any younger, that's certain! 😁

Thanks for any advice.

My setup is with a 3070 and a 32 inch monitor.

Running the sim at 1440p with maxed out settings and it is smooth as butter. Almost every time I load up I catch myself thinking ‘it really does look that good’!

... so for me (+47 eyes 😉) it ‘looks really nice’ 🙂

It looks incredible. I went from a 32” 1080p 60hz to a 32” 1440p 165hz. Blown away at what I was “missing” with the old monitor.

Looks good to me, and with that card you will be able to run at 125/130 render scale to get an even sharper image - especially in the cockpit.

Another 32" 1440 user here. Love it, looks great. Mine isn't even a particularly high quality monitor but I'm very pleased with it.

I use a 35" 3440x1440 wide screen, and it's perfect for my old eyes in MSFS.

Thanks for the info, everyone. 😀

I'm going to pick up my new monitor tomorrow.

If you're not already planning for this be sure to look into picking up a true GSync display.  Short of that, the next thing to be aware of so that you be assured of the best opportunity to run the sim maximally smooth and at a sustainable frame rate, even if and when you get around to a new PC hardware, is what the refresh rate capability of the display you buy is.  If it maxes out at 100Mhz, then you have the option of using Vsync to get you locked at 33fps, or 50fps.   If the same display can be set (via Nvidia CP) to say 60hz, you now have the option of Vsync to 20 or 30 or 60fps, etc.  The Vsync related 'divisors' in MSFS are 20 (or 1/3 of your display's set refresh rate), or 30 (or 1/2 of the your display's set refresh rate) or 60 (or at your display's set refresh rate).  I thought for a while Gsync was really critical, but now looking at the above re manipulating the display's refresh rate, as long as it's a possibility with that display, is 'good enough'.  IMO the most critical factor is using some form of Vsync/Gsync, and Vsync w/ divisor's in-sim is excellent.

Anyone know what would happen if you try and set a setting of 1440 if your monitor can only handle 1080?

Setting it thru what?  I have a 3440x1440 display, and was able to set resolution thru in-sim graphics setting to 4865x2036, then played w/ Render Scaling.  I don't use this, but it's possible to do.

FPS drop a little.  I presume you're talking about "render scaling" in the sim?  It still displays fine.

Exactly that, through the in sim game setting, I see the settings for 1440 but monitor is only good for 1080. I tried it once and while the interior of the aircraft looked fantastic, the outside world (trees, populated areas etc) was way too pixelated or grainy. Just wasn’t sure if it would cause any damage to the monitor.

As you can tell, I’m not well knowledgeable in monitors and resolution settings.

I can’t remember the exact name in the settings, I would have to start the sim and confirm, but I am able to choose 1440 resolution in the sim, however my monitor is only rated for 1080. The aircraft looked great in 1440 setting but the outside was horrible…the readability of gauges in 1440 makes me want to get into that realm of resolution, so long as the outside world stays clear and crisp as well.
