Weather accurate to METAR?

Featured Replies

Maybe a stupid question, do METAR based weather data load automatically or do I have to activate it for each airport which provides those data?

It is automatic.

In addition, if you open the weather menu in sim, there is a button for Metar. This opens another menu that lets you select nearby airports and see what the metar is at that airport. Very handy for setting the approach perf parameters in the FBW A320!

Precipitation seems to be hit and miss. I've gone to a few airports where it's currently snowing or raining according to the METAR and there has been none. Some have had it, but more have not.

is crazy red-orange Mars lighting fixed during low visibility sunsets/sunrises?

Agree fully from my six tests this afternoon.  I found no precip in areas reporting rain.  Perhaps it is the always dewpoint = 10 causing it, LOL!  At least I should be happy there was no thunder and lightening!

No.  Found it at Pittsburgn, Latrobe, & State College, Pennsylvania, and at Elmira-Corning, NY, about 90 minutes ago.  Did not capture screen shots.  Perhaps after Thanksgiving and pumpkin pies............

Hope it is just the seasonal "pumpkin spice" effect!

As far as I recall from one of the Q&A's that needs a recoding of the lighting system which is set to be done sometime next year.

So it is probably not fixed.

The haze depiction looks nice, however like some of you have reported. Seems to be haze in the wrong places.

Better than lightning in good weather - LOL

Flying into Dundee right now EGPN and it says Metar not available?  There definitely is an active metar for the airfield.

It's from more than 2 hours ago. It seems like the sim doesn't show old metars. The same happened to me with TIST, which was more than 3 hours old.

It is Dennis.  The lightning in clear weather was pretty annoying.

I guess this evening when I get a chance to fly, I'll check out SU7.   One thing that has annoyed me in SU6 and prior, was the World selection screen would show winds at 47 deg/7 knots at your selected airport, and then in the sim they would be 82 deg/12 knots.   I never really minded the sim not matching the METAR, because I'm all about variability because variability occurs in the real-world.  But when the sim itself can't even agree with itself on the winds, that one got me.

That is fixed now. Only the ATIS is wrong.
