Despite having butchered that quote, I think you could turn that around and apply to yourself; don't like the heat of all the updates and the dynamic platform, don't partake 🙂

I think its a good thing. Only the hard core simmers would hang around if it was one update every 6 months. People have shorter attention spans nowadays and want constant updates to stay engaged. It's the mass consumer who wants this and we wouldn't have a sim of this magnitude without them.

I agree but I do like new things such as that Hornet.  But for some reason, I'm not able to move/rotate the World Map with the mouse anymore. Not sure what happened.

Kind regards,

Tim

You certainly have a point. But I was referring more to the SU and the mandatory module of the WU than to the optional regional WU which are indeed a good way to keep people interested in the product.

I don't really mind the updates, what I do mind is the succession of failures coming as a result of a maddening and unrealistic calendar with fixed dates, not allowing quality control and reliable testing before release.

  • Why the absolute urgency to release on a specified date when all IT developers generally abstain from committing themselves to such a nightmarish prospect?
  • Why release an update that is known to break - for example - Track IR, that will immediately antagonise a large chunk of users?
  • Why the insufferable urge to add more feature before fixing those that are supposed to work in the first place?

This has to be a new way of doing business that was not taught in the past in well known business schools, it could be called "rush to suicide"...!

I would not want to be part of the Asobo management, even for a golden salary, the stress they work under is unreasonable.

Maybe it's not Asobo but it's user who are to blame.

Maybe Asobo should stop listening to a very small but very vocal group of users.

I was very happy with the last release. Now with fog so persistent that I have to go down to 300 feet to even see the runway lighting the "study sim" users are maybe pleased, but I'm not. Oh, and now we are on the study sim lovers subject; everey time you make a hard landing you should be banned for 6 month and renew your purchase. So the financial pain is felt. like  in real life.  Oh, and outside view  (anytime your in the air) and pause should be removed.

And all that is set by Microsoft, the publisher. Unfortunately it isn't new at all; it's been like this in games development for a long time, along with publishers asking development teams to do the impossible.

Jorg saying the next development phase, now all this new stuff has been added, is focusing on winding down and bug fixing. I'd bet anything that's Asobo's voice finally being heard by MS, as much as the community asking for the same.

I mostly agree with you. Asobo is less in cause - boys will be boys and engineers, engineers 😁 - the MS commercial policy is.

I like his take on the quote, as it is a bit less aggressive than 'get out of the kitchen!'

As for your comment, as you know, like all of us, he has no choice by to partake in the mandatory updates.
So are you suggesting that after paying good money for a product and expecting a certain standard of delivery, he should just walk away, ditch the sim, an lose his money?
We knew before buying that it was a 10 year programme, but I certainly didn't expect it to be as 'dynamic' as this.  (being kind there)

The issue for me personally, isn't the regularity of the updates - I love that!   It is just the quality of them.
Do they need to slow down and test more, or do they have enough resource to deliver already, but it is maybe just bad project management?
I don't know how we could ever know that, but I feel Jorg Neumann probably has his own thoughts on it and is driving the schedule.  Is he asking too much of Asobo?

The first time I saw a publisher botching a release was with Fly!2 in the early 2000 ... So nothing new indeed. But I’ve not seen in any of the games I have played these recent years a flurry of 13 updates in the first year and a half.

Neuman says many things. We’ll see. But at the end of the day, he's the one in charge .

Of course you aren't forced to use a simulator, especially not when there's plenty of other choices. And yes, if you have a lot of problems with a product, even something you purchased, then you can walk away. Having paid for something does not make you a slave to it, that's how it goes for everything in life. You always have a choice, always. Saying you don't is a weird victim mentality.

Yeah, I think there's been so many community requests since the start for so many things, from performance improvement to new features, MS have just wanted to please everyone as quickly as possible, and consequently displeasing many.

I can't speak for the team on the MS or Asobo side, but Jorg is always the one grinning, and in the last Q&A I sensed some weariness from Seb and Martial. Martial even seemed to snap a little at one point and apologised.

You also have the choice to accept different opinions how people think about MS/Asobos update policy. It is not black and white.

Many things have change in this update and we have no explanation or justification from Asobo

At least we now know why they did not release a comprehensive owners manual with the sim…. they would have to re-write it every single month!  😁
