Should I do it (5.3)?

Featured Replies

So, is the consensus now that the HF1 has been released that the upside of going to 5.3 outweighs the downside of fresh installing P3D plus a few hundred GB of add ons? For me improved performance is priority, trying to squeeze all I can out of 9700k at 4.8ghz and RTX 2080. Of course, improved visuals would make me giddy as well.

Great visuals...and butter smooth.  Those two alone are enough incentive...

If your add-on developer followed LM's installation instructions you shouldn't have to reinstall a few hundred Gb of add-ons. I have more than that and didn't need to reinstall them.

I am currently on my way to upgrade to 5.3 :D

Still a bit struggeling with the Affinity Settings they add, but I think i will leave them at standard. Performance is great.

I did not do the Nuclear Route...and everything (all my software shows up and runs).  I did do a VERIFY files on all my Global Orbx and then did a Orbx Sync. Did a GSX update run, and went into GSX Control Panel and turned off Default Jetways once more for v5.3 HF1+1.  After that...all's good...no...all's EXTREAMLY good! 🙂

another hot fix yesterday - BTW

I updated from 5.3 to 5.3 HF1+LF yesterday using the following process:
1. take system image backup using Windows Restore. Backup key config files by copying to separate folder (prepar3d.cfg, scenery.cfg, add-ons.cfg, export key bindings)
2. download client and scenery files from LM website
3. remove Envshade adjustments (i.e. restore default shaders) using Envdir
4. in Windows add/remove programs uninstall P3D client and do not deactivate
5. install new P3D client
6. in Windows add/remove programs uninstall P3D scenery
7. install new scenery
8. install updates for addons (Envshade, ASP3D beta, FSLabs). Resync Orbx.
9. Clear shaders and delete content from C:\users\yourname\appdata\local\temp
10. Start the sim in the default scenario

No issues so far but am still testing, seems smooth so far.

Apologies, I should have made that clearer, I exported a file from within the P3D control settings menu. Using the above method did not change any settings however, i.e. it doesn't reset any config files. Currently 6 hours into a long haul flight and for the moment everything is working OK.

Leave AF settings as default. I adjusted mine using one of the online computing models for my 4 core Hyperthreaded CPU and did not like the results. Went back to the standard as applied by P3D in the cfg and it made a world of difference.

I will be upgrading from P3Dv5.2 to 5.3HF1+LF. I noted you and Rob Ainscough are upgrading from 5.3 to the latest HF1. Will my process be from 5.2 direct to 5.3HF1+LF or will I be required to first upgrade to the basic 5.3 first and then to HF1?
