January 16, 20224 yr I knew this was going to be a PITA, but yet somehow convinced myself to install the beta to get rid of the annoying TIR bug. I go on a holiday right before the New Year, just got back and wham, my installation is wiped. I downloaded the sim again, but all my addons while still being in the Community folder, aren't working. Do I have to re-initialize anything? Fuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jacek G. January 16, 20224 yr Yeah dumb isn't it. This sim is starting to become a pain in the balls. If the NG3 gets delayed any longer I'm going to uninstall it and try the Zibo out. ASOBO are starting to really word not allowed me off. Ron Hamilton "95% is half the truth, but most of it is lies, but if you read half of what is written, you'll be okay." __ Honey Boo Boo's Mom
January 16, 20224 yr Author I am absolutely fuming right now and have to leave for work for the week, was hoping to squeeze one flight in. What a circus. Ugh! See this is one statement i don't get, and it seems to crop up pretty often. Asobo are the developer, working on instruction from MS.... The fault and direction are dictated by MS. So therefore in my mind the main issues sit with MS and the direction they seem to be chosing. With the current issues we have seen in the past few months, it would look like either very bad planning, or updates are so rushed initially, that bugs are not even found until it's too late. January 16, 20224 yr The community folder should be empty when updating MSFS. I copy/paste to desktop then delete the Asobo\Community folder. Better yet, install the Add on Linker and use it to deselect all the add on's before updating. \Robert Hamlich/

When the update runs you need to make sure you're pointing to that path (because it defaults to the standard one)

When I was pushed to install the beta by several people to fix track IR, i said no way, and all the train wrecks that have happened because of the beta, , makes me glad I stuck to my decision.
January 16, 20224 yr It was stated many times that you have to leave the beta channel before 13th I think. Otherwise you are forced to leave the beta. And if you don't pay attention or have installed the sim in the default path, you end up with problems
January 16, 20224 yr I made a Q&A topic on that whole MS Store mess: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/can-the-msfs-development-team-look-into-ms-store-installation-issues/490240 Feel free to vote. January 16, 20224 yr There was no difference between the last beta and the final release. Why, in heaven's name, would it be necessary to delete the entire 100+GB of files in an obviously premeditated and calculated way? Even my MSFS icon in the taskbar disappeared! I totally love MSFS. I enjoy it every day. To me it is vastly superior to any other sim. But I must admit that the installation/update/re-installation process is even worse than the P3D nightmare of replacing only the Client. This forum represents the very best and brightest of the flight sim community. So if we're being unexpectedly hammered with program deletions, I can only imagine what less experienced users are thinking right now. As I said elsewhere, I'm wondering whether these widespread MSFS deletions are perhaps the result of a copy protection scheme that went horribly awry when Asobo realized that the beta suffered copy protection vulnerabilities. I'm just guessing. As to why a re-install is was necessary, I have no idea but it seems good practice to "reset" all files after leaving a beta channel, just to make sure all files are completely in line with the current official channel. January 16, 20224 yr I had no problem at all with installing and leaving the beta. But I actually knew exactly what I was doing and renamed the folder containing the Community and Official folder before I started the installation process - a folder in a custom location, of course.. Everything smooth and over within a few minutes. Edited January 16, 20224 yr by crimplene

There was also posts telling you to leave the beta prior to updating. I guess a lot never took any notice of these instructions. Well said. I was a bit careless, forgot to plan for it, but absolutely NBD to let the sim reinstall itself and all addons bought from the store. Freeware Community folder entries all orginated from a download somewhere, and they went in the Win 10 Downloads folder, and so we selected them and copied them back into the CF. NBD, though of course it took many hours to complete. Glad I have fresh install all is working great, and load times have reduced a bit it would appear. I say NBD because largely this is a passive project--you DO NOT need to hang around your PC and respond to prompts unlike the harowing nonsense that was the Prepar3D reinstall. Quite frankly I would not have the patience (nor memory!) to ever do that ordeal again!
