Not great to buy used........hours of use till inspection or replacement of components is less.   Only advantage of buying used is no waiting time.  buy one and on delivery order another for delivery in 3 years is the way to go.  Sell it then for someone wanting a reasonably new plane imediately.

Without watching the video I knew right away that only flight schools are going to order and make their money back in just a few years. It's a workhorse trainer.

A goof friend of mine owned a FBO in South Florida and he told me that in order to break even renting aircraft was you had to charge 0.1% of the cost of the aircraft per hour. Back then a new C 152 was around $19000, and you could rent them for $19 an hour wet.  What are they going to charge per hour for these brand new 172s?

It depends. The bulk of training on these TAAs will happen at accelerated levels with bulk pricing. Average cost between to $200-$250 per hour. They can even get the Commercial Certificate, so the student will save money in the long run on their journey to an airline job. Multi-engine time will be even more expensive.

The average Student Pilot will probably go for the more affordable option and maybe one day buy a kit or used airplane.

Not too impressed with this offering tbh.

Where I live, more and more flying clubs are targeting the "larger" VLA segment (now there's a nice paradox lol).

I rotate between PA28 GNS 430 / C172 G1000 and a two-seat VLA from BRM Aero. The latter is just 1 year old and blows anything the club have out of the water when it comes to avionics and features.

  • Garmin G3X w. FMS
  • AP with FLC/VNAV/LNAV and blue LEVEL button.
  • AoA indicator
  • Synthetic vision
  • Ballistic parashute (like a Cirrus)
  • Envelope protection
  • Rotax engine, 4gal/hr fuel burn

I mean in my case, I rarely fly with more than 1 pax. So the BRM aero is the logical choice at 2/3 hour rate vs the Piper/Cessna.

Obviously it wont work as ATPL trainer (non-certified GPS WAAS receiver, so you can only load approach wpts after the FAF, however all waypoints are in the DB) nor as a family traveller. And you are limited with a two-seater. Can't argue about that.

These are training platforms going to flight schools. Individual owners are not buying brand new 172s. 500k gets a lot of capability in another airframe a just few years old.

Individuals, however, ARE buying new Cirrus (specifically SR22s) at $1.2+ M which seems absolutely crazy for a 4 place fixed gear single. But that is an incredibly capable plane…except for useful load.

Don't we have hanger chat anymore? Not sure what this has to do with MSFS?

Easy… It relates to MSFS as it gives you an appreciation for the default planes included in the sim and how you can experience the magic of flight without all the expense 🙃
