The D model B247D would make a very nice comparison to a DC-1 or 2 and would give us something to move up from when the 3 arrives. As you stated, you can't have too many 3s. Ray When Pigs Fly . January 26, 20224 yr Author It is that big ole trim wheel that is important in the DC-3. That Artificial Horizon in the top center of the B247D was way ahead of the times. Ray When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .

January 26, 20224 yr Very interested indeed, as long as it's not the A.H. model. Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting. https://rationalwiki.org
January 26, 20224 yr The DC-1 had a slightly less powerful engine and seated only 12 instead of 14 compared to the DC-2. Only one DC-1 was made because TWA insisted on those 2 changes. United Airlines owned Boeing and was going to hog all the 247D's for itself. Which is why TWA needed a rival plane, and the Douglas Commercial was born to meet their need. Not much different than a DC-6... They came close. Capt. R. sounded like he really wanted to build the DC-3. He had one (a real beauty) for awhile, but, sold it. There are some YT videos of Capt. January 26, 20224 yr Author That is a great story about the DC-2 1/2. Thanks. Maybe one of you historians can find the story about a DC-3 taking off with 100+ PAX. This was in Chile or some place in South America and they used a DC-3 to evacuate a town high up on a mountain. Seems like the runway was near the side of a mountain and all they had to do was fly over the side of the mountain and use the altitude to gain flying speed. I was told the story, but, never bothered to check it out. Ray When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .
