January 30, 20224 yr To get back to the topic I'd say - whatever one may think of the sim, its a fantasy to think that the team has been focusing on hardcore simmers/simming. And to advance as evidence what they present in their Q&A for the future sounds to me, after almost a year and an half of PR, close to gullibility. But as the song goes "Still at the end of every hard day people find some reason to believe". A great song btw. - that does not mean that MSFS is toyish (even if it ultimately is a game 😉). I would add beware of those who have an agenda of personal rancour that has not much to do with the quality of the sim. The old timers know what I mean. In spite of this lack of focus, this game has nevertheless many elements of a serious simulator which makes it on par with its predecessors and I personally appreciate the experience of 'serious' flying that I get from it with the simcraft I have, VFR or IFR. - Hardcore simming, whatever that means, is not synonym of a huge set of equipment (home cockpit) but it certainly helps to have a minimal decent setup, specially in the controllers department. I am not in hurry to see multi-monitors/networking compatiblilty etc but the simconnect issue goes beyond catering to home cockpit builders. It will in a way decide of the complexity of future aircraft it seems to me. January 30, 20224 yr Some have presented good interpretations of "hardcore simming" in this thread. It can actually be as simple as using a platform and a specific aircraft add-on to fly a pattern, train a given IFR procedure, operate an aircraft and it's systems the closest to real live operations as it is possible, etc... Usually I wouldn't ellect a desktop flight simulator as "hardcore" when it comes to the control of an aircraft in terms of flying during an x-wind / tricky weather situation ou or into an airfield... That particular area is the one which lacks the most in any of the flight simulation platforms I ever tried, and I tried many along more than 30 yrs playing flight simulators. It's partly de to limitations imposed by the aerodynamics modelling in a desktop simulation of an aircraft, partly due to the limitations imposed by the hardware sed for the flight controls, and surely also due to the sensorial limitations of "flying" an aircraft "through" a desktop PC. I believe VR can bring a very good perspective, but I never tried any of the modern VR peripherals, and I try not to just to avoid getting tempted to buy one... And a way to get acclimated to those really long tubeliner flights on auto pilot at FL350 is to paint a board, place it in front of you, and watch the paint dry.

January 30, 20224 yr a quick comment for those who insist that XBox was always the primary goal: Why would Asobo implement DLSS (or whatever)? If its an nVidia only thing and XBox is AMD only? Why would they ever waste a single second thinking about it, let alone try it as they say they did? Edited January 30, 20224 yr by sightseer | Dave | I've been around for most of my life. If its an nVidia only thing and XBox is AMD only? Why would they ever waste a single second thinking about it, let alone try it as they say they did? The primary goal was not the Xbox but the casual gamer on PC or Xbox. They started on the PC because the foundation code was FSX. What MS looks for is to sell the Xbox services not the consoles. Microsoft's vice president of Xbox business development, Lori Wright, in 2021 :" we sell the consoles at a loss," confirming that Microsoft has never earned a profit on console sales. Xbox consoles have never turned a profit for Microsoft - CNET So the more sales the more losses. The topic title is misleading in the sense it opposes hardcore simming and Xbox. It does make sense to me. Then did they implement DLSS ? They say they may consider it. We'll see. Touch and believe.
