Hardcore flight simmers have an open can of petrol on their desk so they have a constant smell of Avgas in the room and wait 25 minutes to push back whilst waiting for an imaginary late passenger's bag's to be offloaded from the first ULD which went into hold 13 in the front of their A320 and the Trepel won't work so the rampies have to wait ten minutes for TCR to show up and fix it. Everyone else is just playing at it. I remember one Avsim poster who claimed that if he crashed an add-on aircraft he would buy it again. If true, that's pretty hard core. And daft. 🙂 Edited January 29, 20224 yr by Holdit

You are diagnosing them with "lack of attention". I agree with other things you write, but not with this one. You are labeling people. This should not be allowed. A.

I am merely repeating it in an attempt to ascertain why they think they are better than other folk, and that MSFS isn't for serious simmers. I agree with you that labelling folk is wrong. Especially in this case where it really doesn't matter. I (and others) are merely trying to figure out why some here call themselves serious hardcore simmers, and MSFS is for noobs.

There's a different reason for everyone. Some reasons are more amusing than others (the pilot cosplaying one always leaves a smile on my face, and yet), some are more absurd than others, but it's all too complex to be put in a straight order. So the answer is: there is no answer, because there is no common ground. There is NO definition of a hardcore simmer, so there is no way to decide who's best at that. A.
January 29, 20224 yr guys, keep it coming, this cuts the time while we wait the final 50 hours to countdown for WU7 - Aurora Australis. as soon as WU7 is available, lets switch over to another, totally new & interesting thread for hard and soft core simmers alike, titled: "Need help - community folder erased - I can't download it - I am finished downloading it - frame rates increased/decreased - what were they thinking - awesome - back to FSX etc." AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler. 60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking. very nice.

Agreed with you my friend. Just I, and others, are curious to know why people label themselves something to differentiate themselves from everyone else. Or label a platform as 'not for serious simmers'. It is somewhat similar to the 'study level' argument, although that can more easily be explained I think There is no right or wrong..just arrogance in some I guess.

Let's shift our attention to another camp altogether: that of hi-end music reproduction. Is there some arrogance from those who say they have the best of the best and that they paid 70K$ just for a speaker cable? (I am not joking, they live on this planet). Yup, you bet. But there is also arrogance from other people who, not being willing, or able, to spend more than a couple thousand bucks on a hifi setup (and if you have to take care of college for the kids that's totally possible) say that all those who pay more than 500$ for a digital to analog converter are idiots. So, arrogance is everywhere someone is not willing to understand other people's priorities, or sometimes weaknesses. Arrogance, and conflicts, arise when we don't respect each others' life experiences, values, needs, and are only preoccupied to repeat to the world that we are doing the sensible thing, while the others are nuts. That's my take. A.

That's my take. A. Agree again. Arrogance is everywhere. I am a retired CSO and I heard my fair share of bs from folk. I am also a musician (guitarist) with some high-end equipment. You kind of alluded to that level of arrogance with you speaker cable example that you get in the music world. One thing I know from this thread is that some folk like to pretend they are better pretend pilots than others - and that doesn't freaking matter to anyone. Still curious as to why they think they are special though..

January 29, 20224 yr I don't think its arrogance. Its part of the A-type personality and the need to categorize and organize everything, including oneself. I'm an extreme organizer myself but if you know you can't know all the categories, it becomes a waste of time to try and do the categorizing on your own so you sit and wait for a higher power to do it for you. If you believe in that of course. I believe the best we can do is not hurt the growth of others and thats why this 'who is hardcore' conversation can be destructive to anyone who is as we all once were -- just starting to sim - where taking off is a success and crashing somewhere near the runway is 'not that bad' Edited January 29, 20224 yr by sightseer | Dave | I've been around for most of my life.
