One minute caring about "doing it right" and the next minute flying under bridges or between the buildings. I'm both casual AND hardcore... or at least 'hardcore' relative to me. its kinda like these pepper sauces I like to try and make. At first the idea of deseeding and rehydrating peppers seemed very strange but now its very familiar. What I do now is 'hardcore' I guess. They've said it themselves that MSFS is a 10y project and that they will not leave the more dedicated in the dust. You can choose to call this only marketing hype, or take it as reflecting their true agenda. I see nothing happening today to make me not take them at their word. RobA's list of missing pieces as evidence they're never going to advance the simulator is just another sad failure to appreciate the big picture. In order to a cater to the more technically advanced, aeronautically-compliant simulator they fully believed the pathway there is to first create the cloud-based, performance-tuned, scenery, lighting and atmosphere engines scalable to a wide array of hardware in order to attract as many old and new users as able, then and only then to more aggressively address features of the more advanced simulator. I sense this took huge effort to do and they've clearly knocked it largely out of the park in this regard already. So when you say, 'the team has been focusing' are you saying the only pathway there is to create the SDK/simconnect elements first, is that how you determine where the team's 'focus' lies? I think the real fantasy is to think you can do that first, and then develop the cloud-based streaming scenery/lighting/atmosphere. The latter is far and away the difficult part to do as it's never been done before in a flight simulator whereas the SDK/simconnect piece has been done already and there is nothing innovative required to get there beyond working with current content providers to accomdate changing approaches to coding, APIs and so forth. I can fully appreciate why they sequenced this the way they are. Along w/ developing the SDK/simconnect interfaces they still see a need to advance the primary component thru the release of World Updates, and this to continue to attract, and retain, new and experienced users. Because the SDK/simconnect components are not mature today in no way substantiates your statement that the team is not focusing on the more advanced, aeronautically compliant simulator--they are sequencing development according to their long term vision of how to get MSFS to meet their ultimate vision. January 30, 20224 yr A dozen pages and it seems like GSalden is still unwilling to come forth with the definition of "hardcore simmer" that he was using. I don't expect he ever will at this point, rendering his comments rather meaningless. It seems like having spent a considerable amount of money on hardware forms at least part of the definition in his mind, but I guess at this point we'll never actually know. Just something to bear in mind the next time he drops into a thread to talk in certain terms about what the game is broadly suitable for. 😄 OK, back to guitars and Shakira, or whatever -- topics more meritorious, though perhaps less relevant to this forum. Perhaps the thread has indeed run its course. The people's flag is deepest red.

It goes to the Store which entail a lot of faffing before it get to the job in hand. 2c The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA

If MS/Asobo was for hard core simmers, then why is it 2 years later and we still don't have a complex aircraft available? If MS/Asobo was for hard core simmers, this post wouldn't exist in the first place. If MS/Asobo was for hard core simmers my RSG 530 and GTN 750 would be fully functional and integrated by now. If MS/Asobo was for hard core simmers, I'd have undocked multi-monitor support by now. If MS/Asobo was for hard core simmers why is AI traffic worse than it was in FSX? If MS/Asobo was for hard core simmers why are weather transitions still not working and not accurate? If MS/Asobo was for hard core simmers why is ATC worse than it was in FSX? If MS/Asobo was for hard core simmers, why does winds aloft enroute not impact fuel usage accurately? - “real” is an indefensible argument and provides no measurable thesis. There are no “real” planes in any flight simulator. - MSFS has the DC-6. So there is a complex airliner. Zero of the complex airliners (737, 777, A320, etc) have been developed in under 2 years for any sim. -The WT G1000nxi is the only study level version of the most popular GA avionics suite. -It’s 2022, multi monitor is dead and pointless. Hardcore is VR. Get an Varejo Aero and experience what all commercial and military is pushing toward for “realism”. Fake mismatched inaccurate home cockpits are for hobbyist and gamers who like buttons. -AI is for gamers. Hardcore is Vatsim/IVAO. MSFS is too hardcore to worry about gamer AI. -No sim has seamless accurate global weather. So if that’s the bar than no hardcore simulation exists. -Again, VATSIM/IVAO is for hardcore simmers. Push button ATC like I am using a customer service phone menu is for gamers. -If I can add fuel with a slider in any sim it’s not hardcore. I have never ever seen a pilot enter fuel and the plane magically filled up with a bounce. Magic fuel is for gamers so I guess we are all gamers! Always a good time to play my flight sim is better (bigger?) than your flight sim. Why don’t we all start a kickstarter, hire a team of university level academic aviators and do some double blind experiments to settle all the big arguments. It’s all in good fun. And for the most part I enjoy the banter and hope you all do as well. It would be fun to have a beer and discuss flight sims with some of you passionate people. A lot more fun than the ugly realities of all the worlds problems.
