I can't allow that, all simmers were created equal? that sounds like cockpit communism. there must be differentiation, otherwise why do we differentiate private pilot, instrument pilot, commercial and ATP pilot and test pilot. are they all serious (TM) hardcore pilots?

Wait, I technically test fly aircraft... that makes me uber leet gg pogchamp best of everyone right?

Nope still in my office at home in my PJs.

Hard to take people seriously as a 'hardcore simmer' when half of them are in their underpants while justifying it XD

assume Gerald flies a perfect IFR approach in IMC conditions in his multi-million $$ home cockpit in his or her (if a female) underpants, could he/she still log those hours as "serious flight simulation" (TM)  or does it count as hard core flight simulation?

I don't think its arrogance.   Its part of the A-type personality and the need to categorize and organize everything, including oneself.

I'm an extreme organizer myself but if you know you can't know all the categories, it becomes a waste of time to try and do the categorizing on your own so you sit and wait for a higher power to do it for you.  If you believe in that of course.

I believe the best we can do is not hurt the growth of others and thats why this 'who is hardcore' conversation can be destructive to anyone who is as we all once were -- just starting to sim - where taking off is a success and crashing somewhere near the runway is 'not that bad'

I totally agree.

YES all simmers are created equal. Equally able to enjoy what they prefer. And nobody should feel bad for the way they like to play a game.

Communism has nothing to do with it. We don't need to differentiate at all, and the reason, once again, is that this is a game, a hobby, and freedom is part of the fun. I refuse to deprive anybody of this freedom just because I need to feel better for a moment.

I wish other people were so respectful when I, among others, express my worries about the direction this game has been heading on after august 2021.

But you can't have everything, can you?

Why are you worried my friend? It'll be OK.

I am also a musician (guitarist) with some high-end equipment. You kind of alluded to that level of arrogance with you speaker cable example that you get in the music world.

Yup, if anyone seriously thinks that this (1966 Fender Telecaster, priced at $39.500):

Telecaster-1966-Dakota-Fender.jpg

Sounds nearly forty grand better than this (Brand new Fender Squier Telecaster, priced at $599), then they deserve to have thirty nine grand taken off them:

Stick 'em both through a decent amp and I bet most people would be hard pressed to know which one was which based on the sound alone, but you'll still get guitar snobs who will claim otherwise. Most electric guitars could be a slab of concrete and it wouldn't make a jot of difference to the sound, it's the pickup windings and magnets and the amp these are played through which determine most of that, and paying thirty nine grand for a guitar is not going to make your playing any better either.

Same with flight sims, a rotten pilot with a posh PC yoke, is still a rotten pilot. 🤣

Yep. I use AmpliTube. Makes my Gear4Music branded guitar sound amazing. Still wonder what it would sound like, though, if I could actually play guitar. I mean, something other than 3-chord strumming of Three Little Birds.

excuse me, I didn't expect anyone to take my post serious, even though I can be a very serious simmer (TM) sometimes. 😀

I have a Ron Kirn custom Barnbuild Telecaster. It's one of a kind. I would never sell it.

Would love to see it if you have a pic you could share. Maybe through DM since I don't want to turn this thread on serious simmers into a thread about serious guitarists.

I love my American Pro II Fender telecaster my wife bought me for my 50th, but I sounded the same on my Rondo/Hadean T-style and had my wife not been so generous I would still be playing it!

(I gave the Hadean  away to a kid interested in learning to play.)
