Dont know where that premise comes from, actually, i do, its a basic stereotype. I interact with Xbox customers very often, and more often than not, they are way, WAY more knowledgeable than i am regarding aviation stuff. Plus, the Xbox is basically a disguised Windows PC. So wheter MS/Asobo favors the Pc or the Xbox, doesnt make a difference to me. For my part I do not think this is relevant. The point is that MSFS is being handicapped by the specs of an XBox. January 27, 20224 yr Before MSFS came along this sim genre started to die slowly, with a few hardcore, elitist bunch of simmer snobs hanging onto stagnated sims like P3D and xplane, and getting new blood into this hobby seemed impossible. Microsoft revived this genre from the grave and brought millions of new users, young and old. Even gaming sites that had long forgotten about flightsims started talking about it. It was in the newspapers a massive PR campain, saw it on tv, youtubers that never heard of fligtsims promoted it, pretty much everywhere they talked about this new "world wonder", I hardly couldnt belive it was happening. They brought it to xbox wich even exposed it to even more users, all this benefit us old snobs because they get revenue to take this sim beyond what we ever imagined. Even xplane users should thank microsoft too, because it will push Austin to take hes own sim to new levels. And hes already doing it, volumetric clouds, better trees, infact it looks Xplane 12 is trying to bring all the eyecandy MSFS have to make it relevant. And I belive it would have never happend if it was not for Microsoft, he would just be stuck in hes "blade element theory" and tune it to oblivion and not care at all about next gen graphics.... We should all be grateful to microsoft for this. I know I am, because I was on the verge of quitting the hobby, sell all my gear and never look back... So thank you Microsoft and Asobo!!!

I thought P3D and Xplane where the future until I realized we wheren't getting anywhere, so my intrest started to fade away and Microsoft came along and revived this hobby for me and when I first tried it it gave me the same feeling I had many years ago when i first got into the hobby with FSX. I felt joy for the first time in many many years. And I will also try Xplane 12 because Austin finally seemed to realize now that eye candy is also important in a flightsim.. So thank you again Microsoft

Microsoft pulling out of flight simulation when they disbanded Ace Studios was an opportunity lost for flight simulation. P3D and XP becoming complacent and not advancing flight simulation very much for the 10 years that Microsoft was away from flight simulation was also an opportunity lost for flight simulation. I really enjoyed the sim, invested a ton of time and a lot of addons for it. Was great at the time. But MSFS is better. I dont have brand allegiance, I just go with the better product. If MSFS were to close shop (pretty unlikely- the sales difference between MS Flight and MSFS 2020 are night and day if that's the example you're suggesting), I'd go with XP12 or whatever else is available. That said, I still agree wholeheartedly with Kaboki - I am very thankful to MS/Asobo for allowing me to finally realize what I had imagined in my head as a teenager with Sub Logic Flightsimulator II. Its still blows me away everytime I put on my VR headset. Edited January 27, 20224 yr by VFXSimmer

About hobby dying, just look at the demographic of the users for the last years,,, mostly senior people 50+ up to 90 years old and plenty of memorials on display at forums of them fading away while the flow of 20+ years old hardly was enough to replace the dying old crowd...

I have often said that this sim is what I was dreaming of when flying FS1 on my A2. So I like it quite a bit and I am often frustrated the way it is managed and by the MS hype which borders dishonesty. But the bottom line is it is the best so far I 've played in 40 years. Yes, the first generations of simmers are dying. Including me. Then what ? New generations will come spontaneously to flight simulation like us, because there always will be folks like us, the elitist snobs, who like the cocktail of complexity and fun that it is all about. And glamour. Aviators ! Showing off to the girls in a party. When I hear the blah blah about the new blood and expanding the hobby to new populations of players that always makes me think of these dreadful multi-storey cruiser ships ruining Venice. I don't know why ! All things to be taken with a pinch of salt but you catch my drift. I have it on good authority that the world's supply of 50+ year olds, which is weighted heavily with retirees looking for fun and interesting things to do with their newfound spare time, is being constantly replenished even as the 90-year olds pass on. Many hobbies don't have universal appeal across all age cohorts, and never have. I've never seen a large percentage of 20-somethings on a golf course, as one example. Nor will you see many 70-somethings trolling for hookups in the local bars or weightlifting at the gym, either. Our interests evolve as we age. The flight sim groups I've been associated with since my 30s have always had fairly senior demographics. 30+ years on, it doesn't look a whole lot different to me. I would not characterize interest in the hobby as "dying."
