MSFS focusing for the hard core simmer market, not X-Box!

Featured Replies

Imho MS/Asobo wanted to give as a game/sim with incredible views and not to difficult aircraft so as many people as possible would buy and enjoy it.

So the outside world has priority over compatibility with study level 3rd party aircraft.
Bing photo terrain with custom AG on it abd dramatic looking clouds and nice atmospheric lights effects.

However, they are willing to built further upon this base to make it even possible for study level aircraft to connect to MSFS.

We all know the lists with intentions in development. Let’s see how far they will come with that …

And hopefully they will not use the XBox as reference ….

I am enjoying MSFS 🤗

Joerg/Microsoft has said from the very beginning they don't consider MSFS a simulator.

Wrong. There was an explicit statement their focus is on a simulator in one of the 1st press releases on their website. (Don't ask me to regain it, perhaps someone has saved it.)

Edit. Here's a quote of the original MS statement:

If ASOBO would have made a an effort to work with A2A & PMDG, a year in a half later MAYBE we would have the planes we want.

Asobo literally speaks to PMDG on a daily basis, including using Discoord. This was mentioned in the last Twitch Q&A.

so you didn't watch the latest developer twitch where Joerg/Microsoft confirmed they have been communicating on a daily basis with PMDG and friends? it is a simple question of priorities, not of capability. I assume initially they wanted to develop an FAA approved procedure trainer for maybe a handful of 100 or so customers, willing to pay 100.000 $ each and then found out they are not capable so they decided, hey lets market it to the x-box users instead 😊

Initial hype made it seem like they wanted a sim to be a realistic as possible. Hence why I spent $120 on the sim on initial release.

Honestly, I can see nothing that would support that claim. This sim is on the market less than two years. The PMDG 737 is expected within weeks or months. Asobo are working hard to improve loads of stuff that has nothing to do with outside world looks. They hired WT etc. pp.

I really don't get why the fact that this sim look good leads people to believe that would be the only thing that is important for them when the actual video that is being discussed shows that this is not the case.

Laminar Research customer -- Asobo/MS customer -- not an X-Aviation customer - or am I? 😉

I remember Rob saying many things (also about stuff missing in MSFS), but nothing about having to convince Jörg to add "aviation related functionality" ... Do you have a link to this?

If someone like PMDG has to convince Jorg why they need something what hope is there for us mere mortals?

When / where did they say this?

in one of their first press conferences and he repeated this several times afterwards. and he is right, he doesn't want to get involved into these endless debates "is it a simulator, is it a game, or is it Memorex 😊 - only us avsim experts care to discuss this ad infinitum 😊

A year and a half later. Maybe if they would have started the communication a year and a half before the initial release of MSFS, we would be enjoying a 737 Max. Maybe?

It's not like they didn't know the best devs in the business.

Microsoft/Asobo still do want the sim to be as realistic as possible.  The overwhelming majority of their decisions for MSFS have proven this, including hiring Working Title, including the enhancements to how aircraft behave on the ground last year, including the upcoming changes to propeller physics and propeller aerodynamics as shown in the last Twitch Q&A, etc.

Just because MSFS is not there yet, doesn't mean they are not heading in that direction.

I don't know how you come to this conclusion.  The PMDG DC-6 was released in the summer of 2021.  PMDG was obviously talking to Asobo leading up to the release of the DC-6.

maybe if you would finally watch their latest developer twitch you would not spread this nonsense. Joerg explicitly said "we started talking to PMDG in April 2020". in my book that would be 4 month before MSFS was released. and if PMDG had read/understood the SDK fully, they could have released their 737 for pc by now.

I don't hear anything negative from this. All he's saying is that they have the possibility to request features from Jörg, if they can justify the need. Makes sense to me, and it has a very different ring to it than what you wrote as "Rob from PMDG saying how they have to convince Jorg to spend time and resources adding aviation related functionality"

Don't you see the issue? These kind of features have to be justified first. Like when Jorg asked why we would need historic weather. It's like he doesn't understand why these things are important in a flight sim.

Um, they've already had 1 release in MSFS, the 737 will be their 2nd within 2 years of release of a brand new sim platform....  2 new aircraft releases from PMDG within two years of release of a brand new sim and you are complaining?
