MSFS and Microsoft are really targeting commercial market?

They'de better had to do with liveries,

if it was about liveries they'd be contacting the airlines, not the aircraft manufacturers.

Yes, this.  The fact that Microsoft & Jorg are in contact with the aircraft manufacturers, I don't think the reason they are in contact is because of liveries.

Are they planning to compete or to enter into the full flight simulators?

If you read that they have close partnerships with all aircraft manufacturer (large and small), you would almost think that the aircraft manufacturers want more options on the commercial sims market? Or the lower cost base for training on their aircraft.

being in contact doesn't mean being in contract either.

They've already worked with Textron in the past.  .

Working together doesn't necessarily mean hyper realism or FAA training certifications.  I mean, Lewis Hamilton (multiple F1 racing champ) consults on Gran Turismo, which is far from the most realistic driving game.

Obviously, Microsoft/Asobo are in contact with many aircraft manufacturers since Microsoft is licensing the use of those aircraft in MSFS (ie. the default planes for MSFS). This is not new information, this is something we all know by now.

But I think you need to watch that segment of the video when Jorg is talking,  Jorg says the aircraft manufacturers like the accuracy of MSFS and then Jorg says there will be more news to come on this.

I can’t say this 100% means Jorg will announce MSFS is entering the commercial market based on what Jorg said, but it does raise questions on whether Jorg is exploring the commercial market for MSFS.

But Microsoft has entered the commercial market in the past before with FSX ESP, and subsequent deal with Lockheed Martin to use the FSX code, Entering the commercial market is not new territory for Microsoft.

I'd be shocked if they weren't thinking about heading into the commercial market at some point, it would seem there are big bucks to be made there with significant commercial contracts (just going by inferences from the payware devs that dabble in both the commercial and home markets).

I thought Microsoft was targeting the "hardcore simmer market".😄

as long as they are "serious simmers" (TM), but hard core business decisions might be a little more important, and just to give you an idea how small a niche us simmer-earthlings are in their total portfolio:

"Microsoft to acquire Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion.  Xbox Game Pass now has 25 million subscribers, as Microsoft continues to acquire studios to boost the subscription service. “We’re investing deeply in world-class content, community and the cloud to usher in a new era of gaming that puts players and creators first and makes gaming safe, inclusive and accessible to all,” says Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella."

A combat system

MSFS2020 has a PEGI rating of 3. And Jorg already made it known they have no plans to war up MSFS. But that will not stop 3rd party's from doing so.

Microsoft would obviously have different versions of MSFS if they were pursuing military contracts.  This is peanuts for them to fix.  The version we use would never have combat abilities, but combat abilities can be enabled for the version they sell to military customers.  Having said that, it makes sense for Microsoft to focus on civilian customers and civilian commercial projects  first, since MSFS is more suited towards this at the moment.

Spend 5 minutes on a Redbird BATD running P3D and you’ll realize that the bar is set pretty low for “flight modeling” for FAA certification at least. It’s more about physical hardware being representative of the plane being simulated than a hyper realistic flight model.

it’s not a stretch to see MSFS applied in a commercial product, but it is going to have to mature a bit as a platform with much better hardware interfaces, instructor tools and control over failures and other various scenarios.

Chris

Also it is important to remember how invested Microsoft is in the business augmented reality sector, both commercial and military. There is no reason that they can't leverage their hololens glasses with this product.

So at the last Twitch Q&A, Jorg made some very interesting comments. As you may know, Jorg represents Microsoft, and is the de facto lead of MSFS. It is Jorg that reports to the executives at Microsoft, and it's likely that Jorg also reports to the CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella.  Well, in the last Twitch Q&A, Jorg says that Microsoft/Asobo is tied to the major companies that make aircraft, including the big companies and smaller companies.  Jorg also says most of the world's aircraft manufacturers have taken notice about the accuracy of MSFS and that more would be said about this later:

In any case, if there is $$$ to be made, Microsoft will be there.  There is $$$ to be made in the commercial market and I can't see Jorg/Microsoft not considering the commercial market in the future, in some form or manner.  It could be a direct entry by Microsoft with MSFS into the commercial market at some point, or it could be Microsoft licensing the MSFS engine for a 3rd party to build upon in order to enter the commercial market (ie. just like FSX ESP).  The bottom line is, if there is $$$ to be made, Microsoft will be there, even if it takes another few years.

This feels like a nothing burger post

I really hope MS reconsider desktop computing vs. XBOX ... I understand that XBOX makes entry point more accessible, and that's great!  But, for those that don't want to be locked into the limits of XBOX for 5 years waiting for a new version to come out ...

this is the question,

personally, backing both horses - PC & Xbox, simultaneously…

only MS & Asobo know the actual metrics - what the MFS user base actually is!

time will tell what course MFS takes…
