Will They Ever Fix The Save Game?

The save load feature never worked well going back to FSX so I gave it a try in MSFS and the load (short final) actually worked and allowed me to land.

Still not perfect but didn't crash the sim like in FSX / P3D.

Good luck with a complex airliner ... BTW, I never had loading issues of saved flights with other sims.

I never could get saving a flight to work in P3D either, so I just never used it. I haven't even tried it in MSFS. I finish all my flights.

FStarter has flightsave and flightload implemented. It will not save all states in the advanced airliners, but for simpler airplanes it is OK.

That's strange, it has worked perfectly for basically anyone I know and for any add-on I know, no matter how complex (PMDG, Maddog, FSLabs etc.). Actually the FSUIPC autosave feature saved my bottom more than once during long haul back in the days of DXGI errors

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

Dang, the ONLY thing I miss with FSX is its save flight feature.  For years I'd use Plan-G to build up an extensive flight plan of an multi-day flight with several waypoints and stop overs, load it into FSX then over a week or so spend my precious sim time to fly it all.  I was so looking forward to doing this with MSFS, but alas this feature was totally FUBAR from day 1...and still is to this day. 🤬

absolutly with you. This save game issue is annoying me too. Also that one is still unable to change the weather when loading a flight

To change weather in a saved flight:

Edit the .FLT file using notepad so the [WEATHER] section is exactly this:

[Weather]
UseLiveWeather=True
WeatherCanBeLive=True

To get the menu bar to work in a saved flight (while on the ground only):

Slew your plane up a hundred feet and right back down. For some stupid reason the menu bar comes back.

Thanks to the community for finding these workarounds that we shouldn't need to use. I save frequently only because of the possible random CTD that comes out of nowhere. If I know I can simply reload my flight, that quells my rage a bit when the CTD occurs.

My thought is that  the save feature will require a mostly complete SDK to be implemented correctly.

I just dont get why these seemingly simple problems arent fixed 1.5 years after release??

the last time i tried to load a saved file about 2 or 3 weeks ago i got immediate ctd on clicking on file give up trying would love to see this working properly

The ability to save state (everything) and play it back is daunting.

The Save issue is another where Asobo show their lack of knowledge of the FS genre then fail to understand what their customers are asking for.

They'd do well to sit down with some grizzly old simmers and get to grips with what we had got used to 10 years ago like replays, saves etc.

I would have hoped that this would have been their very first developmental mission - way back in the early design stages of the sim.

Some private focus groups/surveys of simmers and 3rd party devs, private forum activity, etc,  attempting to obtain info about what were the very best aspects of previous versions of MSFS and what are the top, unique features of competitor sims, and try to include (some of) those things right out of the chute.  Seems no brainer to "bone up" on your hard-core market and dev's who have long carried the sim.

While some members of Asobo went out and obtained PPL's and other RW aviation experience to aid in creating a better sim, which is most certainly to be commended, I still feel the Microsobo have missed, and are still missing, a certain feel and intuition about how people sim and what really is important to them. JMHO.

Edit.  Here's a freeware utility released a few weeks ago that might help those wishing to save the state of their aircraft across multiple MSFS sessions.

Yet I don't understand how they had PPL training and STILL got the Hybrid measurements wrong! You wouldn't think that possible. Similarly the misinterpretation of Metar cloubases to be MSL rather than AGL is a glaring lack of understanding of the basics. But yes, a few focus groups with simmers or developers would have avoided a number of wild goose chases.

Oh boy, this is one of the first thing that I notice with MSFS 2020 and I was so disappointed. The inability to save and load  correctly made me wait and wait to continue my world tour that I started in 2009 in FSX...

It seem that this issue is not enough important and that there is not enough virtual pilot complaining as Asobo seem to mostly address issue by popularity. I even posted here on this forum long time ago and nobody answered if I remember.

I have build this list that I need to follow precisely every time I want to continue a flight and it worl..., but oh boy it would be so much more simple if we could save like in FSX.

2D CHECKLIST

-Turn on controller

-If using Open Track : Calibrate and adjust exposure.

-Start Flight Recorder (in case a crash)

VR CHECKLIST

-Turn on controller

-Check battery level for VR controller

-Start Flight Recorder

-Start FS Kneeboard

IN THE WORLD MAP :

1. Select Plane and Weather set to all Live.

2. Adjust fuel quantity and weight balance from the last flight position.

3. Check tail number and call sign.

4. Adjust Control Surfaces Authority in the flight model section of customization.

5. Start at any airport that allow cold dark

IN THE COCKPIT :

1. In developer menu under option check disable crashes.

2. In developer menu under windows open the teleport window.

3. Enter the latitude and longitude according to the last position notes.

4. Adjust altitude in slew mode with controller triggers.

5. Adjust heading with yaw stick according to the last positions notes:

6. Uncheck the slew mode box.

6. After the plane is set go in developer menu under option and enable crashes.
