Sim Update 8 is out now, go get it

That is precisely why I have avoided the beta. Not a problem for me to wait a couple  of weeks for the final release.

The beta was flawless for me.  At the end of each beta there was nothing for me to do, I just loaded the sim and flew.

In order to prevent my entire sim installation from being completely deleted -- as happened last beta -- I removed myself from the beta three days ago. All my files were perfectly restored to SU7. Today, my entire sim installation has once again been deleted from my SSD. Yes, I know it was suggested to have a separate installation to a SECOND location for the beta. But that's more data than my storage can handle. Is it really technically impossible to simply update your existing files from the beta to the final release? Or from SU7 to SU8 on the same storage device? Especially when you left the beta early as suggested? I guess it is impossible. Maybe in a hundred years. 😞

I guess you are not using the Steam version?  For the previous two betas I haven't needed to do anything, just load and fly.  Who suggested leaving the beta early?

I am using the Steam Version and, for the second SU in a row, I "do the necessary" and find the update process very easy, BUT, the darn Sim just halts on loading at around 60% after updates complete.  I finally got the previous update going, but do not understand how as I did nothing different 😞  Many attempts at a variety of "hints" from a variety of sites did not help 😞  Any hints would be most welcome, it's driving me slowly barmy  -  at 77 years old, I do everything slowly 🙂  BR

Very Best Wishes,

Couple of things I noticed after the update to SU8:

1)My "exe.xml" got deleted so FSUIPC and GTNxi gauge didn't load at startup.

2) Even though "Bijan Terrain Masks NH- Experimental.40" is in my Community folder it's not listed in "Content.xml" and therefore not getting loaded I'm guessing.

3) Some, repeat SOME, of the settings in "UserCfg.Opt" got changed. As did the location and size of my rolling cache.

Has anyone checked the new map feature of the marketplace? It doesn't work for me. Filtering or clicking on airports e.g. has no effect.

I think I see what the issue is: There is no map inside the Marketplace. Instead, there is the option to buy a download of an airport from the World Map!

For example, I was planning a flight from MNMG Managua Int to MMUN Cancun Int, and when I tapped on MNMG there was an 'offers' line added to the usual Departure, Arrival and Zoom options. licking on that takes you to the Marketplace entry for that airport. Now, if that's been there all along, I've certainly never seen it, but I assume that's what Asobo has actually done!

Supposed to have MSFS installed on a separate drive if participating in the beta, known fact now.

My FS20 is installed in the default position on the main disk.

Simple update.

Followed the instructions on the link posted here at AVSIM a couple days ago, leaving the beta first from the Xbox Insider, then pushed the half-giga update and when MFS started it asked to download around 117 GB !!!

I was already aware that it happened because it was pointing to the default folder, which is void since I have the Community and Store folders on another partition / disk, so, simply clicked the path string and updated it with the location of these folders in my install.

Now ready to test... Version shows as: 1.23.12.0

Exactly! It needs to be in a non-standard location or it can be over-written.

Yes, there is a map, but it is blank. Go to Marketplace and click on the airports tab on top and you will see the map.

The idea is that anyone who has been on the Beta should not boot up MSFS. First opt out of the Beta to be restored to the previous version before there was a beta.  Then boot up MSFS and you will be treated as if you never had the beta and get the full update.

In steam it just takes a mouse click to opt out of the Beta. I'm not sure about the store version, have no experience with that.

I'm confused, I followed the instructions for correct leaving the beta and now I have to reinstall all the f.... thing. Also, I never heard about the non standard location. Anyway, it will be a newly fresh install.

I understand!  Frustrating I know.  It happened to me the first time.

The last update I was in Beta and did not opt out of Beta before booting MSFS and had to reinstall all of MSFS. So this time I opted out of the Beta as soon as everyone said the update is ready. And only after opting out did I boot up MSFS. So I did not have to download the whole program again.

It's like I need a mine sweeper before approaching MSFS oh so carefully. One false step and Boom!
