• Updated aerial imagery for USA

I was hoping for updated imagery for my area. It's the same though 😞 outdated bing maps...

yup. its outdated bing maps. Still way better than what we had in FSX!  I just wish theyd get annoying things like the ATC fixed, we really need a good 3rd party to come in and give us a good one, and not just for IFR..

Even after this second update of the United States I realize how extraordinary Google Map is.

I doubt this will ever happen. IMHO, outside a few avsimmers and sim nerds, there doesn't seem to be much of a demand for that.

Anyone having sound issues with the ATC after this latest update? I can't hear the ATC voices anymore as of 0400 cst time. Maybe servers overloaded?

P.S. Disregard this post figured out the problem. It was the Id10t behind the screen

I assume that lots of people don't use ATC at all. Those who only want to land their 747 on SABA probably won't care about ATC, and at the other end of the spectrum you have people using Vatsim only.
There's plenty room between those two though. Not everyone wants the depth and strict environment of Vatsim but still want to have realistic ATC.

There are several threads on the official  Flightsimulator Forums about ATC but probably these are only competing for votes thus dilluting the demand for realistic or accurate ATC.

Flightsim rig:
CPU: AMD 5900x  | Mobo: MSI X570 MEG Unify | RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo | GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3090 | Storage: M.2 (2 & 4 TB) | PSU: Corsair RM850x | Case: Fractal Define 7 XL
Display: Acer Predator x34 3440x1440 | Speakers: Logitech Z906
Controllers: Fulcrum One Yoke | MFG Crosswind v2 pedals | Honeycomb Bravo Quadrant |Thrustmaster TCA Quadrant | Stream Deck XL & Plus | TrackIR 5 Tobii eye tracking

I think there is a demand for ATC, and any current void will see Vatsim membership keep going higher and higher, is my guess.

I dont use 3rd party programs yet so cannot comment on how useful they are, people who have them can obviously.

Vatsim to me is useless. I like to fly in the morning and early afternoon, and at those times there are just a few controllers for the entire US  and Canada. Take a look for yourself, right now there are around 20 active controllers for the entire world.  http://www.vattastic.com/

3rd parties still need to be able to control AI aircraft in order to maintain seperation etc. With online traffic, the real world ATC should take care of that but only if the active runways in the sim correspond with real life as well. Also aircraft must be able to clear the runway as quickly as their real world counterparts do, although deleting aircraft instead of having them going around is probably the better solution.

This is why I want a good third party solution. I had hopes for FSHud but it is not a major improvement over default and, in fact, is worse in some areas. Default, while far from perfect, is not awful and I'll have to use it for now.

Been using PF3 for years both on P3D and now MSFS. Works very well.

I think that I used to use that a long time ago. I'll take another look.

I tried Google and saw all these tile squares updating in a certain radius from the plane. It looked strange, is that a setting thing ?

Could be a network port conflict. Have a look at the FAQ at GitHub

You could say that about study level airliners too... But here we are. I think you underestimate how good for the sim proper traffic and ATC would be. Especially considering there is no alternative to the default one for XBOX. Even users that have not much interest in hardcore simming can see the shortcomings very fast.

FWIW, they seem to be wanting to focus on ATC as an area to improve: https://twinfinite.net/2022/06/microsoft-flight-simulator-interview-40th-anniversary-edition/

Jorg Neumann: "There are all sorts of things going on with AI traffic. The thing that really bothers me about it… there is ATC, and we really need to look into ATC more deeply because people talk about it a lot… but the thing that bothers me about the air traffic is that we have sort of chopped-off low-flying traffic completely. We have all the data from FlightAware, and we are cutting off anything below 5,000 feet, which is a lot of stuff. It’s a little brutal what we’ve done. I actually think it wasn’t due to performance at all. It was some sort of steering problem. So we’re looking at that."

Perhaps as with some other stuff like avionics (i.e. Working Title), they can partner up with or gobble up some 3rd party expertise on ATC and/or AI.

My wrong then.🙂 Strange though given the membership numbers. I am guessing the videos of vatsim flights are probably organized events then.(which are not representative of normal vatsim traffic)

Like one on saturday was so busy that there were frequent holding instructions and refusals for afk (away from keyboard) requests.!
