Inibuilds Heathrow v2. Should I?

Featured Replies

I am in two minds as if I should buy Inibuilds Heathrow, especially as it’s on sale.

There is a really good comparison video that showed it against the Asobo version.

Imo the ground textures of Asobos version, plus the control tower were much better.

Inibuilds concrete looked too white, but the buildings were better overall and the night lighting is impressive.

What do you think? Should I spend £18 for some small improvements or spend the money on a different airport?

On a sale: Absolutely. It's become quite good after a couple of updates, visually. Performance is better, but it's still a performance hog, so don't be disappointed.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

Useful (essential?) if using VATSIM because it has more/better signs including for the holding areas. These are missing from the Asobo version.

But, yes, performance is not great: they seem to have used a lot of detail on the interior of terminal buildings , which seems like a wildly profligate use of resources to me but each to his own 🙂

Depends on how often you will fly into EGLL and what specs your PC has.

As my local airport, I really like the extra detail. I can get 27 - 30 FPS (locked @ 30 FPS) with the FBW A32N, Orbx CityScape London and lots of AI traffic. With default aircraft or the FSReborn Sting S4 I get my max 30 FPS.

Sadly, I cannot use the Fenix A320 at Heathrow as I only get 16 FPS.

AMD Ryzen 5800X3D; MSI RTX 3080 Ti ; 32GB Corsair 3200 MHz; ASUS VG35VQ 35" (3440 x 1440)
Fulcrum One yoke; Thrustmaster TCA Captain Pack Airbus edition; MFG Crosswind rudder pedals; miniCockpit FCU; CPFlight MCP 737; Logitech FIP x3; TrackIR

MSFS; Fenix A320; A2A PA-24; HPG H145; PMDG 737-600; AIG; RealTraffic; PSXTraffic; FSiPanel; REX AccuSeason Adv; FSDT GSX Pro; FS2Crew RAAS Pro; FS-ATC Chatter

PC spec below in sig

Answer=YES

In the Fenix at EGLL with FPS locked at 31 it never drops below. (Orbx CityScape London) nice amount of AI traffic. LOD at 200

T5 is wonderfull and home to my BA flights.

Your two PCs are very similar, and yet David gets twice the framerate at Heathrow in the Fenix A320??

I was just thinking the same. It doesn't make sense that a 10900K should outperform a 5800X3D by that much. Also they both appear to be running 1440p.

On topic, I would recommend iniBuild's Heathrow if you go there relatively frequently. It's a decent addon although it's a resource hog. I don't think I would get 30fps there in the Fenix with terrain LOD of 200. In fact I think some of my most stuttery approaches have been there with fps falling even below 20 at times. That's with AIG AI traffic at 70% though which adds further punishment to the main thread.

I highly recommend the Iniscene EGLL.  It is very detailed, features VDGS, and so far, my frames have never dipped below 34fps with AIG injecting AI in full force.

Sincerely,

More or less same specs as David (I run @5.2 but no HT and at 4K) and I get same performance as David. It's all about managing which cores the various Fenix processes use.

Been a while since I used the Fenix. I'll give it a try at iniBuild's EGLL and see how it goes. I'm on SU10 beta though. Do you put the Fenix on the CPU? I've forgotten what I did, it's been months.

Just did a quick test with the Fenix parked at gate 322. Did some panning around in external view, then in internal view. Clearly fps are dipping below 30fps quite often. Not sure what sort of voodoo you are doing to be able to maintain a stable 30fps.

DX12: Average framerate  :   29.3 FPS
           Minimum framerate  :   17.2 FPS
           Maximum framerate  :   40.8 FPS
           1% low framerate   :    6.4 FPS
           0.1% low framerate :    5.9 FPS

DX11: Average framerate  :   29.8 FPS
           Minimum framerate  :   19.1 FPS
           Maximum framerate  :   48.2 FPS
           1% low framerate   :   16.7 FPS
           0.1% low framerate :    8.1 FPS

V2 added more interiors, yet still has better FPS that V1, so.

I just make sure that the Fenix processes do not use the core that runs the MSFS main thread, in my case core 9. One trick is to disallow core 9 for the FenixBootstrapper.exe before you load the flight, the rest of the processes will then inherit that same behaviour.

That LOD will stutter in any part of the world.  I have a high end rig and have mine set to 100.  Anything above and it will stutter.

Also, any hit in the EGLL area is probably most likely due to the surrounding area and not the airport scenery itself.
