September 9, 20223 yr Another good comparison video on visuals and flight dynamics using the C172 Len 1980s: Sublogic FS II on C64 ---> 1990s: Flight Unlimited I/II, MSFS 95/98 ---> 2000s/2010s: FS/X, P3D, XP ---> 2020+: MSFS Current system: i9 13900K, RTX 4090, 64GB DDR5 4800 RAM, 4TB NVMe SSD
September 9, 20223 yr I always struggle when any reviewer uses default aircraft to compare flight dynamics. Default aircraft are meant to be easy to use and accessible for everyone. Yet it becomes the standard under which these reviewers are using. There is a reason why payware aircraft exist. I want to see an A2A C172 vs Airfoils C172. That way we know are reviewing the best of the best of each side. https://fsprocedures.com Your home for all flight simulator related checklist.

After watching now 3 sim devs tackle the problem with varying degrees of success, it really does feel like this is one of the last major hurdles for ray tracing: 3D clouds + global illumination. As I observe the game/graphics industry, shadows, reflections, and lighting all seem to be squared away reasonably well. But when you start talking rays being cast a hundred miles away through multiple translucent volumes.... it's really expensive. There's so much volume to cover. And that's just in daylight with one light source (or night w/ full moon). Friendly reminder: WHITELIST AVSIM IN YOUR AD-BLOCKER. Especially if you're on a modern CPU that can run a flight simulator well. These web servers aren't free...
September 9, 20223 yr I like what LR has done with XP12 but it still needs a lot of work. I find it hard to look at those blurry/low res clouds and the roads and lighting need major work. Are these going to be addressed during early access or is it just bug fixing and then release. I am no MSFS word not allowed but I do like that they have development updates so you know what they are working on. A year from now XP12 might not change much visually. September 9, 20223 yr My goodness I've been following this thread with some interest. It seems that we all have an amazing hobby and a favourite sim that we are passionate about - no matter which one. Both in need of improvements, apparently. That's more we have in common rather than not, so I hope everyone has a potentially great weekend of flying !

September 9, 20223 yr I am not an pro at Reshade but I decide to add bloom and really mess with the color palette of XP12 more to my liking. it's a bit more saturated that I like but it also give better cloud defintion. September 9, 20223 yr I have no idea why people have to divide into Sim Camps. I fly in FSX, P3DV4, and XP 11. And I enjoy different things about them all. I will eventually go to XP 12 after some patching and MSFS after squaring away my system for it. The Demo looks nice. The big shortfalls for me are the same as for 11. ATC and Air Traffic. I would love to see a more developed ATC engine based on real practice with human voice sampling. I would love to see AI traffic that actually flies routes. Scenery and weather implementation can and will be fixed by LR or 3rd parties but the total flight envornment requires good ATC and Air Traffic implementation. September 10, 20223 yr MSFS or X-Plane. I'm not ready to give an opinion because I'm waiting to learn what King Charles will say. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. I have done a couple of flights using ATC. Its not bad a little better than FSX. As pointed out, its fairly generic, it does have multiple voices, nice change, Did an IFR flight from YSSY tp Parks YPKS got me lined up and at correct height as it should, did a short VFR flight, had to ask for VFR NEast, gave me squawk code and sent me to runway. YEs it makes you hold short of any runways you cross. Reminded me to turn on XPDR as I forgot before I took off, gave me flight following then left me alone. i never made it out the area need a faster plane to see if it cancels the flight following. Thats another test. Going to suggest some minor changes and one 2 possible bugs, but its fun having ATC now. Doesnt do sids or stars, im sure that will come so you have to fly from your first way point to last. As they pointed out its rather difficult to incorporate all the world ATC standards isnt going to happen, but they did say you should get teh corrects accents for region. Havnt gone that far yet Edited September 10, 20223 yr by mjrhealth

Human nature, once the brain gets fixated on something its rather hard to tell it its wrong. As a friend pointed out, if you had a fridge that had a door that opened to the left for years than got one that opened to the right, Will do your head in till you done it a while like going from right to left driving rules. And than there is pride, admitting you might be wrong.

Thats 3d trees its a Beta, you do understand what a beta is, you can still go back to the much improved 2d trees , and when questioned by someone about optimization and how good it was, it was mentioned its not optimised, its a beta, thats on the way. That includes the 3d trees big FPS hit, everything is a compromise. But you couldnt mention that someone else had to point it out.

The transition looks horrible. Happy with MSFS 🙂 home simming evolved

No one did, but every one wanted 3d trees and movement, now you dont want it. As mentioned you can go back to the improved 2d trees. And for the gazzilionths time its a pre release beta, what did you expect,
