Looking for attractive GA homebases

Featured Replies

I'd like to intensify my GA-flying using NeoFly and aircraft like the C172 and the X-Cub. I'd like to do flights up to roughly one hour flight time.

I am looking for some attractive homebases to start from.

These are my desired criteria, with decreasing importance:

1) A region with an appealing, varied landscape (mountains, coastlines, spectacular landscape formations, interesting cities ...)

2) A nice addon scenery for the homebase airport, freeware or payware

3) Some nice addon airports in the vicinity as possible destinations, mostly freeware

4) Enhanced default scenery in the surroundings (world updates etc.)

5) All or most mission types of NeoFly should be realistic options

I have been flying from KORS lately but like to see something else now.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

I enjoy the New England area in the USA.

Airports such as KBID, KACK, KMVY, KHYA.  There are larger airports like KPVD, KBDL, KBOS etc if you need the flexibility to swap into a larger GA as well.

I think there is a good mix of freeware and payware in that area.

CZBB : Boundary Bay near CYVR. You can fly all along the pacific highway or go north toward sunshine coast or Whistler. You will thank me later for this.

Greater Tyrol. Austria/Switzerland.

Swiss mesh is cheap and outstanding. Mountains everywhere

Short trips and bush trip small airport opportunities galore. As well as these cities. Giant Lake Geneva, but no ocean.

This whole region together is not large at all. A compact layout of the best scenery on Earth.

in Flightsim.to you can filter aiports by nation. Austria and Switzerland have a very dense selection of airports there compared to these nation's size.

The best place to look is the airport right in your backyard.  That's what most of us do especially with the scenery FS2020 gives us...

I would recommend either Orcas Island (KORS) or Darrington (1S2) both in the Pacific North West of the US. Beautiful mountains, and Near the Pacific Ocean. Fly south to see the beautiful Mt Rainier, Mt Hood, Mt St Hellens, the Cascades. Both are challenging enough to get in and out of, especially Darrington, and both are wonderfully represented by Orbx scenery

Your talent is a gift from God. How you use your talent is your gift back to God.

KSEE (with the vbcorp addon) - Gillespie Field in El Cajon California, about 25-miles east of San Diego.   Must have are the vbcorp(Vince Bazillio) addons for KRNM, KMYF, KOKB,  KSDM.

The Pacific coast is just a few minutes west and the 7,000 foot Cuyamaca mountains are 30 miles east, once over them you are at the Salton Sea.

There is a incredible variety of add-ons for Southern California.  I have more than 50 add ons all within 250-miles of KSEE.

Where else can you fly over the Pacific Ocean, jump over 8,000 foot mountains, and land in Death Valley several hundred feet below sea level.  Heading NW you have LA and Santa Barbara on the coast, heading north you have the really big and beautiful San Bernadino and then the Sierra Nevada mountains at over 14,000.

Just started flying routs around the Hawaiian Islands. Really pretty area to fly in and challenging weather at times. Scenery for many of the airports available. A bonus for those living in the states is you'll be flying during daylight hours in Hawaii while it is evening where you live.

If you build a gigantic rack of data storage hard drives, more or less resembling a bitcoin mine, then X-Plane could give you the whole world to go Air Haul 2 in!

This is true...  there are some absolutely beautiful airports made by Northern Sky Studios for the Hawaiian Islands as well.  Relatively low cost too.

Here's a link but they're also on the MP I think

AYPY Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

Coastline?  Check. Gnarly mountains? Check.  Insane bush strips literally clinging to the side of said mountains? Check. Absolutely gorgeous tropical rain showers obscuring said mountains? Check. A variety of beautiful coastal destinations for more "normal" (ie not landing on a mountain) flying? Check.  Great medium haul airline destinations throughout Indonesia and over to Australia? Check.  A lot of great freeware challenging strips on .to?  Check.

I really think, if you're looking for ultimate variety and challenge from ONE home base airport, it would be tough to outdo Moresby.  👍

My home base in real life. I hope someone does a proper scenery for it. Not the freeware one. I also hate how mid July there is snow in the valley on the way to Pemberton...

my main Hubs for my Bushflying and GA flying are

SVSO in Venezuela (The North Andes are a great place to fly)

FWMY in Malawi - great region to fly and hin hint there is an addon for Malawi 😉

FADS in South Africa. The Cape Town Region imo is the most beautiful flying region I have found in MSFS so far.

Other than that I also fly where I live, but it's propably not so interesting for other people.
