Who cares how long it takes to load? It will load eventually. 

Do dishes, clean out the garbage, whatever. 

Ignore the "task manager".

Mine takes 3 to 4 minutes to the main menu on an old HDD since I started using only FSLTL for traffic. When I had AIG it was around 8 minutes. I also just enable the sceneries for the area I'm going to fly.

Had the sim loaded around 3 hours ago for one of the landing challenges, clicked on the MSFS icon, loading as described in this topic, hung at 85% for around 6 mins then continued to the main screen.
Selected a few challenges, all loaded normally and quick. After about an half an hour i quit and shut down the PC.

Now, i fire up the PC (cold start, as always), click the MSFS icon, sim starts to load but this time it didn't hang, it just continued without his 6 minute stop at 85%.
I went...huh?

Quit, rebooted the PC, started all over, same thing, sim loads directly without it hanging at 85% ???

Possibly, the sim had to compile some WASM data *or* set up shaders or some other processes and once that was done -- it's fast for you now?

Me? I'd much rather have it start faster, it's one of my biggest issues with MSFS honestly.

It was fast but i just ran a loading test after reading your reply and it hangs again at the 85% for about 6 min before it continues.

That it need to compile shaders or stuff i can understand but if they aren't kept anywhere on a drive for next use it should be doing that each and single time the sim is loaded. Should make no difference then to get into the main menu from start.
And it can't be shaders that need to be used in whatever flight i'm going to do since i haven't decided yet what to fly or where to fly to, i'm not even on the main menu yet and the sim isn't exactly a clairvoyant to be able to know what i'm going to do once it has been loaded.

ahem, no.

Mine takes a little under three minutes, but I don't use many scenery addons.

I have a ton of addons.... if I enable them all mine would take almost 10 minutes for sure.  M.2's here.

I use Addon Linker to only enable the scenery where I want to fly and usually the load to main menu takes about 4 minutes.  @Lange_666 seems normal to me.  Do you have any addons?  If so consider Addon Linker.

This software definitely takes the longest time I've ever seen to load.

Meh.  I did provide you with my thoughts that 6 minutes wasn't crazily out of the norm.  Even without addons.

The exe launcher isn't the best imo - mine appears to hang as well.  Don't know what else to say.

This is my situation 98% of the time. Sim loads fine, but I see “checking for updates” Very  dimly for a few seconds on a black screeen without ever seeing any splash screens. Then it loads up to the main menu relatively quick. When we got WU11 it loaded properly the first go, then back to the black loading screen. Weird. Would love to fix this.

 I have about 43gb worth of AIG in my setup, still missing approx 670 operators as I have no interest in installing those due to their region and my sim takes 53 seconds longer to boot than without the AIG. FSLTL will take a bit less but that is entirely due to it having only about 15% of the liveries that my AIG setup has. Overall it's not bad at all at 3:34 seconds considering close to 320 other addons.
