Welcome to the Sim Update 11 Beta!

https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/read-first-welcome-to-the-sim-update-11-beta/548946

Sim Update 11 / 40th Anniversary is one of the largest updates in the history of Microsoft Flight Simulator, and because of this, we are making a few changes to our standard Beta process for this release.

Sim Update 11 Beta testing will begin on October 12 and last until the release of both Sim Update 11 and 40th Anniversary on November 11, 2022. Please note that 40th Anniversary content will not be present in the Sim Update 11 Beta.

October 12 - Beta testing begins

The beta build will be available to download at this time. If you are not already in the testing group, click here to learn how to add yourself to the group.

October 12-24 – Collect feedback and investigate

For the first 1-2 weeks of Sim Update 11 Beta testing, we’ll investigate and fix issues, while releasing updates as needed. After 1-2 weeks, updates to the Sim Update 11 Beta will stop and all resources will shift to finalizing and integrating the 40th Anniversary content in preparation for release.

October 24 – Pause updates and continue collecting feedback

While updates to the Sim Update 11 Beta will stop after 1-2 weeks, we’ll continue collecting feedback up until release on November 11. Feedback not addressed before (or received after) the first 1-2 weeks of Beta testing will be investigated and addressed in future updates.

Release notes:

New Features

  • Live traffic has been updated with various quality of life fixes (details below)
  • New memory fragmentation system has been implemented for DX12 to limit maxed out VRAM 43
  • New Dpad / keyboard arrows navigation accessibility feature is enabled by default in the menus (alternative to the cursor)
  • AMD FSR2 graphic option is now available for PC
  • Title now supports new NVIDIA technologies such as DLSS3 (including Frame Generator) and Reflex on supported NVIDIA graphic cards on PC. We also added support for 2 DLSS modes Super Resolution: Auto and DLAA
  • Improved atmospheric simulation with a big focus on Thermals and general tweaks for the CFD
  • We added a new CFD airflow display visualization in game for aircraft that are CFD-enabled (accessible under assistances and can be mapped to a button/key)
  • 3D thermals visualization can be toggled via the weather panel
  • New mapping for the Back to Fly feature, including height gain depending on the plane situation and current altitude (below 1000ft, 5000ft and 10 000ft), allowing to quickly adjust your flight in a variety of contexts. Very useful during glider runs if you do not wish to restart the flight after having landed

General Bug Fixes

Navigation/Traffic

  • Co pilot will no longer request push back service when it is only managing ATC communications
  • Fixed a scenario when some ILS were misaligned; some missing procedures are now in the sim
  • Fixed an issue with ATC being on the wrong airport when having a VFR flight plan and landing at another airport
  • ATC UI is now enabled with COM Radio for planes lacking NAV radios
  • Live traffic planes no longer turn and fly over the airport at low altitude before the initial climb
  • Added Departure procedures to air traffic
  • Fixed live traffic planes always using the same runway in world map
  • We are now using the flightplan to interpolate position of live traffic planes
  • Fixed live traffic cruise altitude
  • Wind direction information is applied before selecting the runway for live traffic
  • Fixed an issue where loading navdata packages with BGL navdata deletion flags could cause ident search and other navdata lookup failures
  • Fixed an issue where an overriding package containing navdata loading the same facility ICAO as an earlier loaded package would be unable to change the QMID of the facility and would receive “facility in a different QMID than the ICAO index list thinks” error

There's much, much more, but I refer to the release notes for the rest.

No 40th Anniversary content in the Beta. Probably so people don't just join the beta to use the content and not test.

Though I also wonder if the content will be its own (free) download in the marketplace at release instead of being included with the base sim, to keep down base download size.

I refer to the release notes for the rest. Seems like very extensive changes.

Looking forward to CFD the most in the next SU.

Just really, really, really hope that SU11 is a long way ahead of where SU10 was when it was made available for beta testing.
Would not want to see it rushed to release just to meet the deadline of 40th Anniversary date. Given how much publicity the Anniversary content has gotten/will continue to get, I want them to get the release done perfectly.

I feel like we're going to have any SU5 (whatever one released along side X-box) situation that they need to hit that release date.

It will be released on Nov 11th. 110% sure.

I had 5 updates in the content manager. In the Japan world update there's some landing challenges and airport updates, probably the same for the UK one.

❤️❤️❤️

While the gliders aren't in, all the stuff meant to support them are, like wing runners, parachutes, glider pilot models, ground vehicle models. Saw them in the files.

I wonder if the noted live traffic behaviour improvements will also apply to offline/AIG?

I'm supposed to go to bed, but... I got the ~1GB update from the MS Store. Now I'm making a backup of the 205GB SU10 Official folder. Then I'll have a little SU11 sneak peak. I'm especially interested in the live traffic changes.

Just tested it, still blurry glass instruments with DLSS. It is still kinda useless if they don't fix that 🙄

Is it the last two digits in the altimeter tape you are referring to?

This is such good news! No more low flying AI scaring the locals 🙂

Looks like Live Traffic can spawn on taxiways now. I popped over to CYVR it loaded in like 30 seconds, not long enough for anything to land and depart, and two planes were already on the taxiway to parking.
