On my 55” 4K left view and 2x 43” 4K front view I can see the image degradation in the distance using DSLL 2 compared to TAA. DSLL3 takes this even a step further looking at the vids.

There is no such thing as a free ride…

And the prices NVidia is charging is a shame. But hey, if there are people who buy these cards they will keep on pushing the prices eveh more for future cards.

NVidia could learn something from Intel as they have come down with prices for their CPU’s compared to several years ago. ( Still having a 7940X here which costed new € 1600 )….

All with a singular eye towards MSFS performance.

Then I opened my system today with DX12 at Perth airport and high end settings.... (plenty of traffic) and was getting nearly 80fps....

And it occurs to me... Why was I thinking of spending thousands for gains that (probably) at this point were barely perceptible to the eyes.

Do I just have compulsive buying syndrome? Tech lust/envy? Keeping up with the Jones-itis?

I want, but do I really need? Am I just bored? 🤔

 

For me 140 fps would be way over the top. I use a flight simulator to learn to fly an airliner as real as possible. A good aircraft addon is important, good looking scenery is not,  30 fps will do.

I was lucky to fly a few times in professional flightsimulators costing 10 millon dollars plus. They had (10 years ago) almost no scenery at all, only the runways were visible.

If you see a flight simulator as a tool for viewing the environment too, I can imagine that you want high quality scenery and high fps. 

 

As long as the problem remains "real frames" in the twenties at a mega airport being CPU bound with all the other AI running around I will always seek to upgrade the CPU first because for me at least going past 50 to 60 frames is surplus to requirements and i have capped the frames at that limit.

But i hold no grudge against the early adopters. Its not my money being spent.

I will wait to see what AMD comes out with GPU wise, though first I need to upgrade my CPU anyhow.
NVIDIA is overpriced, even the 3080 12GB I bought felt slightly overpriced.

Here in Europe the 3090 FE two years ago costed € 1549. I know this because I first was interested in buying one.

Theh we had the usually brands and their cards would cost €! 1400-2000.

Then because of COVID prices were rising very quickly and my 3090 cards were almost double their price just before summer (checked it).Those prices were ridiculous.

The 4090 cards start at € 2349 and go up to € € 3000 here.

If we find this normal then the next 5090 card might cost € 3000-3500 with DLSS 4….🤔

Nice overview. 
But Intel Core i7 8700K @ 5.0GHz and a 3080 will not give you 80fps on the ground with a Fenix 320 on a major airport. 
drone views are always high in fps especially with views like this

And I have wanted a 12900kf for awhile. Was just about to press the button (Gotta get motherboard and ram, too) when suddenly I saw the 13th generation and went. 😘

This despite all the warnings about power draw and thermals. (Same warnings we are now getting for GPU's)

Probably will still end up with something, but I admit to feeling slightly first world when buying what are essentially (wallet straining) toys, except if you are doing this for business purposes.

(If these purchases are pennies to your personal wallet though, then by all means, feel free to ignore people like me)

well those are prices made up by sellers and not by Nvidia !!!!

The 4090 FE is 1959 in euros.

In a world where so many (apparently) proudly lock their FPS to 30, I think me being even at only 45 in such circumstances is probably ok, except for VR.

So why am unsatisfied?

I think like most I just want to push absolutely everything to the right, and then go to ludicrous speed, eventually reaching plaid.

I feel the urge, I just wonder if its completely justifiable and sane.

Most of the ridiculous tech inflation is related to crypto, people invented 3 trillion dollars out of thin air. Nice scam, but hurt everyone else. Even if the trading isn't as hot, the "fake money" is still partly there, it's actually a big cause of the worldwide inflation. Even after the losses, there is a still over a trillion dollars in fake money floating around.

 

 

Meanwhile the cheapest nVidia card - 3060TI does MSFS justice.  Glad I'm not on the gravy train again.

Hmm...I haven't seen much to impress me (yet) about the 13th gen, but I'm open-minded...

I'm more impressed by the now "old gen" AMD 5800x3D.  If this trend continues this Intel fanboi may have to spring for a 7800x3D in a few months.

That was a very informative video of the 4090 comparing to 3090.  But do u really need 140 frames for this simulator ?

Maybe I am alone, maybe I am not, but I care about them, and I think it’s absolutely fantastic we can nail bare minimum 60 fps using DLSS3 in MSFS. It’s the stuff of dreams.
