MSFS INTEL vs AMD

The best CPU for MSFS currently is the 5800X3D...I don't think there is much we can discuss here. The only problem with it is that it is part of a dead platform.

My strategy was to upgrade from my 12700 to a 13700K and then migrate to a DDR5 build with the 7800X3D once those are readily available.

I have to ask:  what do keep doing with last year's parts as you seem to upgrading roughly yearly?

My chief concern is how cool will 13900K v 7900x3D run with optimized air cooling?  I have enjoyed core temps of 47 to 54C on my 9900K and I know they are going well up for either of these two CPUs.

eBay! Sold my 12700 for 285 Euro, or 75 less than what I've paid for it. Fiddling around with PCs is also a hobby. 🙂

Just use a Corsair liquid cooler? They’re not that expensive and do the job

Huh?

Did FSX send out notes to users saying: hi, there, would you kindly use Intel? I much prefer it over AMD.

As I've said before: I've used both intel and Amd and never noticed a difference.

More or less because Intel was the sole player on gaming systems in the early days.

I see AMD today as a more innovative platform while Intel continues to dish up not so much in the way of performace improvements.

Most gamers attest to that fact while Intel continues to lose market share in the gaming industry.

Of couse pricing has a big impact which drives most system builds these days.

My own take is that AMD offers better perfomace with lower power requirements.  Something important to me since I run off solar.

It won't do any better than Noctua + ambient air always between 4.5C - 15.5C it's very effective.  My [email protected] all cores is 47-54C under MSFS load and average is really around 50C.

With a cursory look it seems like AMD5 motherboards are very expensive compared to Z790

Just like Intel used to be.  Sign of the times I guess.

Ryzen 5 - 3600 with a 3060ti GPU - Sim is golden.

4K High and Ultra locked at 30FPS and the system cost me $2500 AUD March last year.  Couldn't be happier with AMD.

And yep - I have loads of high quality payware scenery, PMDG everything, hamburger with the lot.

7900x3D should be very compelling.  I don't think I need this horsepower quite yet but it can't hurt either.  I will keep my 3080Ti for years still.  In fact I may just hold off on upgrading anything as performance now is better than ever, is excellent and ultra smooth.  If I had a new display w/ higher refresh rate than 60Hz it might be worth it then could frame lock up to 40 and that could be done w/ a new CPU and my 3080Ti I'm pretty sure.  Right now 30 really is it for PMDG at the most complex terminals w/ RT Online Traffic.  And I hear tell SU11 brings some kind of performance enhancement.  I have recently learned that the Seasons products cause stutters so I've uninstalled them for now.

3060ti is golden for my 5900x @ 1440.

So good mate.

It just goes to show that you don't need to fork out a heap of money on a PC to run MSFS well.

Cheers bud.

And what makes you so sure? 😉

AIOs real benefit is that you get the hot air out of your case. My Kraken 360 AIO runs with 30% fan speed all the time and coolant temp is around 40c. Even in cinebench or other full load scenarios on an overclocked 5900x.

I am also not sure why people are looking at the core temp. There is a presentation of AMD where they explicitly say that Ryzen is designed the way to see higher core temps. It’s just normal. The question is: how much wattage is needed and do you get it cooled.

I have a very old PC (see details in my sig.), MSFS runs smoothly with the right setting selected, planing on new build with in next 6 months, just waiting for AMD new 3dx VS Intel 13900KS benchmarks for final decision, GPU going to be 4090, I think I deserve that after all these years, don't I? 😁

When running in 2K yes …..

So in 4k or VR no, or? And if so how much is the difference ? Which would be the best CPU choice for flightsims in 4k or VR ?

I went from a Noctua NH-U14S on my previous build to a H150i ELITE LCD and the difference was massive in cooling capacity, noise and airflow due to space saving. Looks a lot better too! Currently at 30.80 C
