November 5, 20223 yr I have had Intel first for years as I read a lot about AMD framerate issues when using FSX Then I started with WidevieW and because of the costs I build 2 AMD pc’s. Worked quiet well. Used AMD clients for years but had to OC them quiet a lot too match my Intel server regarding performance. Since 10 years or so I am Intel/NVidia only on all of my pc’s. All superstable and no CTDs at all. As this works for me I will probably stay this way. Others may have good experience with AMD.Just use the hardware you feel is best for you 🤓 5950x3d 5.4-5.7 GHz - Asus ROG 870 Crosshair Apex - GSkill Neo 2x 24 Gb 6000 mhz / cas 26 - MSI RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC - 1x SSD M2 6000 2TB - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 1Tb - Corsair 5400 case - Corsair 360 liquid cooling set - 3x 75’ TCL tv. 13600 6 cores @ 5.1 GHz / 8 cores @ 4.0 GHz (hypterthreading on) - Asus ROG Strix Gaming D - GSkill Trident 4x Gb 3200 MHz cas 15 - Asus TUF RTX 4080 16 Gb - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 2TB - 2x Sata 600 SSD 500 Mb - Corsair D4000 Airflow case - NXT Krajen Z63 AIO liquide cooling - FOV : 200 degrees My flightsim vids : https://www.youtube.com/user/fswidesim/videos?shelf_id=0&sort=dd&view=0
November 5, 20223 yr The best CPU for MSFS currently is the 5800X3D...I don't think there is much we can discuss here. The only problem with it is that it is part of a dead platform. My strategy was to upgrade from my 12700 to a 13700K and then migrate to a DDR5 build with the 7800X3D once those are readily available. November 5, 20223 yr I was running an older i7 system with a 2080, and was able to get 20-30fps on high end settings. Computer kicked the bucket so I got a new system with a 5900x and a 3080. Obviously it’s a massive upgrade across the board from my old system, but I am blown away by the performance (solid 60+ FPS on ultra settings). So far, very happy with the 5900x and 3080 combo. November 5, 20223 yr I was wondering are AMD users (5800X3D) getting more CTD'S then Intel users? I also read the 5800X3D is hard to cool. Others say it's fine. So many contradictions in tests and reviews etc. MSI Tomahawk Z790, I7-13700K, DDR5 6000mhz, MSI 4090, 3x SSD 980 PRO, Corsair 360 Liguid CPU cooler, Corsair H1200V2 power.

Taking longer than anticipated. So my new system is sitting wrapped up. Just wired an Ethernet connection so should not be long now fingers crossed.

November 5, 20223 yr As a pensioner on an ever diminishing budget I have used AMD for many years in my flight sim world. I currently run a Ryzen 7 3700X 4.2 GHZ CPU alongside an Nvidia 3060 12 gig and 32 gig RAM. I run it in DSR at 2560x1440 with no outrageous stutters. An air cooled PC which never gets significantly hot and runs for hours without a glitch. Although I sometimes daydream about the latest i9 and an Nvidia 4090, realistically my current setup has never let me down. I am however looking for a way to pump the heat generated by a 500 watt 4090 to heat our home 🤪 Edited November 5, 20223 yr by SierraHotel AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 4.2 32 gig ram, Nvidia RTX3060 12 gig, Intel 760 SSD M2 NVMe 512 gig, M2NVMe 1Tbt (OS) M2NVMe 2Tbt (MSFS) Crucial MX500 SSD (Backup OS). No CTDs either, other than the ones caused when the servers are down or whatever - the ones that affect everyone. All works great for me.
November 5, 20223 yr Recently swapped out my 5600X for a 5800X3D and pretty impressed with the performance gain in 2K. It does run a little hotter though and I think that might be an issue when the weather warms up next year. I am only using the standard cooler though. November 5, 20223 yr So, I guess time to throw my input into this discussion. I have both a 5800X3D setup and also an I9 12900K setup. I have tested and used both of these platforms as my MSFS rig, along with a 3090Ti GPU. The case I use is a Fractal Torrent, an excellent airflow case. I also have a 1200W PSU and a 420mm Arctic Liquid Freezer II cooler (AIO). On the 5800X3D build, I have a lesser mid range Gigabyte Aorus Elite motherboard with 64Gb of DDR4 RAM. For the 12900K build, I am running a better Gigabyte Aorus Master motherboard with 32 Gb of DDR5 RAM. For my display, I use a Samsung 49" Super Ultra Wide Curved Display running in 2K resolution (5120x1440) Most of my PC entertainment time is spent simming in MSFS, although I do play a few other strategy type games now and then. When running MSFS, I typically fly the PMDG 737 or Fenix A320 with FSLTL AI traffic. In BOTH setups, that is the 5800X3D and the 12900K, I really cannot say which CPU outperforms the other. They both run well for me, and I don't need to alter my MSFS settings at all based on which CPU I am using. The only main difference is that, even though I have the 12900K overclocked to 5.3 Ghz, it still runs about 20C cooler then the 5800X3D. My averages when running MSFS with the 12900K are around 30 degrees C for the performance cores, and about 27-28 degrees C for the efficiency cores. My 5800X3D runs at around 56-58 degrees C. From my experience, I could recommend either CPU for great MSFS results, IF you also are running a strong GPU. Besides the 3090Ti that I use, I also have an MSI 6900XT. Despite much tweaking of the AMD drivers with the 6900XT, I could never get very good performance out of that card for MSFS, and also experience some stuttering when panning views with my TrackIR. Conversely, I never have that problem with the 3090Ti. So, I can recommend eithe AMD or Intel for CPU choice, depending on price, motherboard and memory options. But, I cannot recommend the current AMD video cards for MSFS use. This is all subject to my own personal use and testing. I will say that I have a 13900K on order that I can just switch out with my 12900K cpu, so I can report back with some experience with that CPU as well once I have had a chance to do some simming with it. There was a significant improvement in MSFS performance. The 7800X3D chips should be coming soon. How much improvement? I have a 5900x and I’m considering a swap for the 5800x3d. Worth pointing out that I’m running close to 4K with a 4090

Did FSX send out notes to users saying: hi, there, would you kindly use Intel? I much prefer it over AMD. As I've said before: I've used both intel and Amd and never noticed a difference.
