December 2, 20223 yr Quick question... I've been getting stutters on final lately, specifically flying into FSDT ORD (w/DD) and LatinVFR KMIA. I know the answer is try turning down some settings or don't use payware, but I wanted to see what you all think is the main culprit that I should look into reducing first? I think somewhere along the way I increased a few settings so I want to see what I should be turning down first. My specs are in my sig and my settings are a combo of High to Ultra. Try turning off the cache, if it's active, and I can highly recommend this video for your settings: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 4.2 32 gig ram, Nvidia RTX3060 12 gig, Intel 760 SSD M2 NVMe 512 gig, M2NVMe 1Tbt (OS) M2NVMe 2Tbt (MSFS) Crucial MX500 SSD (Backup OS). Hi Zimmer, after over a month of troubleshooting, reinstalls, etc I have essentially stutter-free performance and have a lesser CPU than you do. All settings on Ultra except TLOD varies between 100 and 150 depending on the plane and route. As well for my new Gsync display I run unlocked only until I've get everything up and running: MSFS, AI Traffic (FSLTL currently), A Pilot's Life, PACX and LiveATC.net. And I run Process Lasso to move all other programs off of MSFS' main thread core. After all is running I will set a frame rate max using RTSS w/ Edge Sync to around 6fps below the unlocked value, or not more than 36. I find at 36 thru a synced rate, and thru the Gsync display, we have more than ample fluidity so there is no need to go higher than 36. I'll throw this out there because I think it's underappreciated: are you using any kind of AI traffic apps including default Real Time Online? My testing has established the frame rate impact ranges from 18-20% depending on live traffic count--but I have it dialed back now to 6 IFR and 6 VFR planes within a 50km radius. An hour ago I took off from PAOT (remote Alaska) and the impact of traffic was nearly nil--because there wasn't any. But coming into PANC, if needed, I will kill FSLTL. Most of the time I don't need to kill it but in places like KLAX I might have to. So at PAOT unlocked rate was about 48 in the PMDG 738, and so prior to departure set the frame lock to 36 and there is stayed, 100% stutter free liquid smooth animation. December 2, 20223 yr I just flew the Fenix into Rwy 14 GPS approach at YBMK. Got down to around 300 feet agl, and the video started to stutter badly, and as I touched down the screen actually froze for around 5 seconds, just as I was about to touchdown. Landing rate was around 250 FPM which was much higher than it should have been, but due to he screen freezing, that is what happened. I then fired up FSI Panel, same airport , same runway, this time zero screen freezes and I got 107 FPM, right on centerline and a very good landing report. Same airport, within minutes apart, two different behaviors of MSFS. Weird.

Which sucks because i think dx12 is more fluid....when its not dropping to 15fps and stuttering. Its like it gets stuck and some times recovers to normal frames and sometime it won't.

I am using DX 11, so I guess the issue I am seeing is different.

December 2, 20223 yr I just updated to nVidia 527.37 from 526.47 and have noticed a pump in performance and overall smoothness using my 3080ti (DX12) I gave up on using any form of in air AI as that can be a frame killer on landing. Ground AI seems to not be an issue.

I think somewhere along the way I increased a few settings so I want to see what I should be turning down first. My specs are in my sig and my settings are a combo of High to Ultra. We have almost identical systems, I can pretty much sustain 60fps in the PMDG, A310 & Fenix, I use FSLTL but just to populate traffic at the gate as I find live traffic kills my main thread inducing lower fps drops of 10 or more depending on the airport. I have tried to load my GPU settings as much as possible apart from Ultra volumetric clouds, this can really tank the fps in heavy weather situations even though my GPU usage doesn't go through the roof. I leave them on high. I would start by loading the sim on the runway at one of the airports you mentioned with all traffic disabled and start with ultra settings and then make some adjustments to see where your fps are at. I find I get the smoothest frame time by using Vsync - Application Controlled in NVCP and then on in the sim @ 100% monitor refresh rate and I lock frames to 59.90 in Riva I just got a 55 inch LG QNED85 (Mini LED) TV and have been experimenting with VRR, I am finding if my fps drop maybe 5 or 6 it still stays smooth but any more can effect performance. I am pretty sure any larger fps drops are all main thread related and don't last too long before I am back up to 60. I don't tend to use large airports though I prefer smaller regional airports. I own Fly Tampa CYYZ and with FSLTL on default settings I am lucky to get 45 fps in a complex aircraft. I really believe now a stronger CPU is needed for those really taxing situations. December 2, 20223 yr Chicago is a stutter fest with DD's MDW, City and FSDT's ORD. I had some comms with DD and they promised to look into optimizing the city after EWR gets released. Jacek G.
