Lots of things didn't age well including the "No more budgets"

Aside from the fact that version 2024 is arriving 6 years earlier than advertised/expected.

Or maybe it's just a ploy to get into ya'll's wallets. Warm fuzzies for everyone!

Friendly reminder: WHITELIST AVSIM IN YOUR AD-BLOCKER. Especially if you're on a modern CPU that can run a flight simulator well. These web servers aren't free...

I think all my posts on that topic got deleted (or maybe it was exclusively elsewhere)

but the exact quote for the 10 years was

"this is a 10 year project for us"

by Jorg iirc

in the very first dev q&a in 2019 (one with 4 of them sat in chairs where it became obvious they had never heard of BET)

which also included they had already been working on it for 5 years.

So its pretty much bang on when the original contract between MS and Asobo is due to expire afaict (and I never really speculated what would happen afterwards).

There also is no schadenfreude here on my part, however out of their depth they were at the start, team Asobo seemed like nice people, they just kept really bad company.

Of all the other uncertainties now, that 10 year thing really isn't one of them.

2024 is looking like it will be an epic year for flight sim.

at least 2 fabulous XR headsets dropping

XP12 maturing to the point it supplants XP11

and MSFS having another go at the fairground ride, maybe they learnt enough over the last 10 years that this one doesnt end up word not allowed.

Didn’t you say previously that PMDG would never release their add-ons on Xbox, or that the MSFS roadmap for 2023 was inexistent due to lack of budget?

In any case, I hope your latest prediction materializes.

Asobo have been caught in a gust of criticism and angst from its user base with regard to the botched announcement of 2024. The cult of Asobo had gradually grown to the point where they thought they could do no wrong and could go for growth and do what they liked at the expense of the core, long term, sim community.  Praise was showered on them constantly and heretics were burned. They've  made a blunder as a result imo. And it was all going so well.... Deja vu.

I honestly don't care when or if ASOBO or LR or any of my preferred developers are going to drop support on their products, provided I'm alive and in good shape to be able to play the sims until then.

It's rather morbid / useless IMO to spend time making this kind of prognostics instead of investing it in enjoying the sims.

I am gladly enjoying pretty much all of my time playing MFS, even upgraded to the Premium Deluxe version, and was very glad to see the announcement of the upcoming 2024 version, bringing features I have long dreamed to have in a general purpose flight simulator.

ASOBO is following as close as possible their user wants and wishes, and I have to be grateful for that. they're really fast offering updates, fixing some stuff, bringing new and updated content.

Default aircraft and above all avionics quality, with the recent updates to their 787 and 748i, plus the A310 and the inexpensive ATR-72 are truly 2nd to no other platform. I'd really like to have G1000, 3000 and 5000 as detailed / functional / sophisticated even in default aircraft as they are offered n MFS in other platforms like XP and AEFS...

ASOBO / MFS "franchise" ? They're pretty much ALIVE and KICKING ! so it looks to me...

I didnt expect to see WASM on XBOX, if its available and fully functional now (i cant say Ive followed it much for the last 12 months, but I did see they promised it recently) then I am pretty sure the XBOX results in this survey gave them significant leverage in making that happen.

Do you think XBOX < Android has changed since the survey?

XP12 Steam charts

XP11 Steam charts

Whatever XP12 is doing, it doesn't seem to be doing it for XP11 users.

I wonder where all those XP11 Steam users have gone? They certainly don't seem to have gone to XP12.

Looking forward to mSparks explanation. 🤔

because XP11.55 is absolutely rock solid, has tons of aircraft that they love and when loaded up and heavily customised with plugins like reshade, custom scenery, orthophoto and enhanced skyscapes is simply unrivelled.

XP12 is still a baby, transferring over is a process (like every XP transition) - I had had XP11 for pretty much two years before it surplanted my XP10.

nothing controversial or unexpected by anyone there.

PMDG released their 737 on Xbox just some weeks ago. It did not have any influence on the Navigraph survey, if that is what you are referring to.

No clue what your question at the end is all about.

for pmdg systems on xbox, xbox needed wasm support.

the powers that be were refusing to let Asobo provide wasm support on xbox (due to the piracy risk), the hold up wasnt technical it was political.

the OP, X-Plane on mobile (aka linux) was more popular than MSFS 2020 on XBOX

What, that X-Plane seems to have three quarters of it’s Steam user base in the last three years?

Thats around fourteen hundred players. Where have they gone I wonder?

1 hour ago, DD_Arthur said:

nowhere (as highlighted by the Navigraph survey)

Steam users just upgraded to XP12 from XP11 buying direct from Laminar rather than buying it on steam.

LR not giving Valve 30% of the value of the sales is not something LR will be crying over tbh.

I don't get this view. Following this reasoning you then must also see X-Plane 12 as a relaunch of X-Plane 11, right?

huh

At nearly 8 years old you dont think XP11 is outdated and due to be replaced?

Probably yes, but I see it as an evolution, not a replacement. Your remark about a 'relaunch', and the use of that exact word, in my view suggests the next iteration of MSFS is just the same product with a different name slapped on, which of course it isn't. It will be an evolution of the current sim as well.

Cheers, Bert
