December 26, 20223 yr Hi guys, Merry Xmas.... Question - Is it me or is MSFS 2020 frightened of it's own shadow....The slightest little issue with a USB device brings the program to a shuddering halt...If I am flying and I hear (the now dreaded) ping of a USB device being naughty I freeze for anything up to 2 minutes whilst praying I don't crash out of the program. If I am loading and again hear the ping of a naughty USB device I freeze completely and have to use task manager to exit I dare not touch anything in case I upset a USB device and then that's me finished... Dave
December 26, 20223 yr "Naughty USB device?" You must have some bad connectors or something as I can't relate to what you describe. December 26, 20223 yr Same here, you need to have a secure/tight USB connection. Plugging/unplugging headset or controller freezes the sim for a short while. December 26, 20223 yr And if you have a bunch of USB things plugged in, make sure you are using a good powered hub.

December 26, 20223 yr Starting my Bluetooth earphones during an msfs session crashes the sim about 70% of the time.
December 26, 20223 yr nothing new, the easiest thing slight mistake and the program could be a crash!!! December 27, 20223 yr A frustrating issue if you have it. I've unplugged and plugged in controllers while running MSFS without any issue. December 27, 20223 yr Is this while flying? I ask this because I plug-in USB devices when in the main menu on a regular bases and the sim asks me whether I want to use current profile or customize one. When I click "Keep default", I can go on with the menu. Edited December 27, 20223 yr by bvdboomen
December 27, 20223 yr I think I agree that MSFS is a 'delicate' program, @davenicoll . Certainly, if I have forgotten to activate my VR headset before starting the sim (not even plugging it in - just waking it up) , 8 times out of 10 MSFS will crash. That said, it sounds like your USB connections are a bit delicate too! Dave I can't say that I've seen this one. Just last week in the middle of a 3hr flight, I decided to clean up some paperwork I had lying around. I plugged in my USB scanner (Scansnap s1300i) and scanned about 15 documents. When I was finished, I unplugged the scanner and shut down it's driver. MSFS didn't care one bit. Not even a single stutter the entire time. Just curious. Have you installed the "chipset" drivers that the manufacturer of your motherboard provides? If so, have you ever checked for updates to them (most people never do after initial install)? Your issue seems to be more of a problem with the interaction between Windows and your hardware than a MSFS issue. 16 hours ago, Bobsk8 said: I haven't had a crash in well over a year and I fly every day. I've had a few, but I always check the logs and memory dumps to find out what really happened. Every MSFS crash had a reason. None of the crashes were actually a MSFS problem. All of them were related to either Windows updates, or Nvidia drivers. I think MSFS gets blamed for a lot of issues that really aren't it's fault. 6 hours ago, bvdboomen said: Is this while flying? When I click "Keep default", I can go on with the menu. This is my experience as well. When I plug in my joystick with the sim running, that message is exactly what I get. When I plug in my scanner, MSFS completely ignores it. I think MSFS handles USB changes pretty well to be honest. Update: after posting this, I started a Chicago to Boston flight in the Fenix. While in cruise, I fired up the Windows volume mixer, muted MSFS, logged into my account on my customer's network, ran a report, plugged in my Logitech camera, started Teams and joined a call, ended the call, disconnected from the customer's network, ended teams, unplugged the camera, and then un-muted MSFS. No impact at all to my flight. Still at FL370, and the RTA still shows "On time". No way I could do this in the middle of a P3D flight. December 27, 20223 yr I regularly forget to have a controller connected when I start FS and therefore plug things in all the time. I also often have things plugged in that I need to unplug when it's running. It really hasn't ever caused an issue. I suspect this isn't necessarily an MSFS thing and may actually be something else in peoples configurations. 5800X3D - Strix X570-E - 32GB 3600Mhz DDR4 - AMD RX 9070 XT- Samsung 980 Pro x2
