Windows 10 vs 11 (for better MSFS performance)

To my point...WHY does this happen to Georgleboui, and NOT to me or others?  Again, our computers are individualized to us because of so many things such as the specific hardware inside and the the way we may change settings for other programs, thusly affecting our flight simulator.

That is a good part of it but not the whole picture.

At work we purchase support and setup hundreds of PCs laptops and servers ranging from little NUCs worth a few hundred dollars through to servers worth tens of thousands of dollars with terabytes of RAM.

Sometimes two identical bits of hardware behave differently for no fathomable reason.

Example, we purchased 4 x HP 12th gen i5 Elitebooks in December. Now three behave perfectly. One, when the user did a Win11 upgrade, lost all Display Link over the USB C port, and the Display capability did not return upon reverting to Win10 even when HP themselves reimaged it and flashed the BIOS.  It is currently with HP who seem to be talking about simply replacing the motherboard.

Why was that one different ? Was it just a case of a hardware fault that co-incidentally turned up when WIn11 was upgraded ?  no idea.

Of the 10% or 20% of our machines that have been upgraded to Win11 only that particular one had an issue.

Should you avoid Win11 if you actually need it ? No, it seems to have minimal issues.  if you actually need Win11 just upgrade.

Should you randomly just upgrade on a system with no issues just because Win11 is shiny and you are bored and you can do it for free ?  That is your call, be aware the risk of issues seems minimal but there definitely is some risk and just because someone is boasting about how smoothly their own upgrade went does not 100% guarantee yours will be the same way.

I fall into the category of, if it ain't broken don't change it brigade, at least for the moment. I suppose at some point I will change, but I'll wait to hear feedback and opinions about W11 over the next few months before deciding.

I might be surprised, but as Windows 11 is already 15 months old, the number of contributors that are excited by the discovery of a new version of Windows, is likely to be limited. Not to mention the vast amount of "feedback and opinions about W11" that is already there to be read.

Yes,  I've already had it all 15 months and it only gets better (via numerous updates).  P3d and MSFS have never run better.  Enjoying it.  It certainly isn't a new Operating System.

I ran Win 11 from March of last year until last week. So about 10-11 months.  I went back to 10 because 11 had this strange habit of constantly wanting to index my hard drives (I have 16TB spread across multiple HDD and SSD).  My computer would get laggy during this.

I tried multiple fresh installs, drivers always up to date, etc.  When I went back to 10, this phenomenon stopped.  I’ll give it another try after 11 gets a few more months under its development belt.

"only gets better (via numerous updates)"    All the more reason to wait, while enjoying Win10 as long as it's around!.

I have W10 Pro running so smooth like a purring kitten.

Just like I miss Win7 (the last good one IMO) I will miss W10 too and intend to stick with it right down to the wire.

I always do clean installs anyway and by that time W11 should also be relatively bug free and stable.

"Choice" is a wonderful thing!

I wonder if those using Windows 10 also don't like to replace their cars, fridges, TV's, underwear etc. using the same 'if it ain't broke......' mantra. There's a Psychology PhD in there somewhere. Is it being risk averse or just happy with things being good enough? Fascinating subject.

A bit of both, I would say.    With Windows 11, the main thing is -- and has been for 15 months since it was introduced -- the apparent inability of anyone to tell us exactly how we are better off with it, compared to Windows 10. That is the issue, plain and simple.

It's an imponderable. Sometimes things are just better. It's not up to anyone to try and convince you. We could care less frankly. But we can also be a little smug when we look across at other peacefully contented Windows 11 users and just nod and smile. 'He knows' 😉

If I could go back to Windows 7 with updated security and compatibility I would.
Windows 10 sucks. Everything is renamed, hidden, moved around and still confuses me after years of using it.
Windows 11 is MacOS from Wish. "Let's put the icons in the middle so every time you add an application, all the other icons move to a different spot." Must be great for productivity.

Ah, so it's a mystical thing that can't be described -- you have to feel it. Now I understand --- I need to install Windows 11 so that I, too, can be peacefully contented and smug.   BTW, did you mean to say "We couldn't care less"? (Either way, I have the distinct impression that you DO care, a lot).

Er no, 'could care less' is grammatically correct. Google it on your out of date PC.
